The consistent, slim-margin phenomenon at the state level in swing states, coupled with the winner-take-all electoral vote assignment, has made it favorable for losers, like Trump, to claim election fraud. It's a matter of fighting for the scraps of about 10,000 votes in a state, like GA, WI, and AZ to try to overturn its election. One strategy in Trump's plan was to target democratic-heavy. urban regions and disqualify as many votes possible to tip the election results in his favor by about 10,000 votes and make him the 'winner'. In a direct popular vote, Trump would have had to prove about 7 million fraudulent votes went to Biden in the 2020 election.
The electoral college system could assign electoral votes proportional to the direct popular vote of the state, which would make it similar to a direct popular vote. Nearly every state, though, uses the winner-take-all approach, which in the past couple decades has made the outcome of the presidential race hinge greatly on a handful of states.
I don't like this system but I don't know what a better solution is - or if I trust anyone to create a better one. When I see how both parties love to tip things, gerrymandering, it doesn't give me confidence in either party to work out a fair election - the popular vote, I think, should count. Each vote should count.
Trump's indictments are having diminishing returns for his political fundraising By Jessica Piper 08/01/2023 12:31 PM EDT Trump's indictments are having diminishing returns for his political fundraising
Trump chose to not concede the 2020 election. He could have left it alone but didn't. His followers decided to riot on his behalf at the Capitol. Similarly, Trump could have turned over the government documents in a timely manner but didn't, partly because he was busy trying to overthrow the 2020 election. Those were decisions Trump and his followers made that precipitated the expensive legal problems they now face.

Deranged --partisan thugs! Doesn't seem a very smart way to address the folks that have your freedom or lack thereof in their hands!
With a new crook, it least it could be fresh and entertaining for a while. I am so sick of this bozo, who is said to enthrall half of the voters, to which I know of none.
