Democracy's appeal is slipping as nations across much of the world hold elections, a poll finds

"The poll comes as the world’s democracies prepare for a titanic year, with elections scheduled in more than 50 nations that represent half the world’s population. That includes Indian elections this spring, European Union-wide elections in June and the November presidential election in the United States.

The voting comes as support for more authoritarian forms of government are on the rise. The Pew survey found that in eight of the surveyed countries, support for a “strong leader” who can make decisions without court or legislative interference increased since 2017.

Those countries included Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Kenya and Argentina, where Javier Milei, a self-described “anarcho-capitalist” whose supporters call him “the madman,” won that country’s presidential election in November, after the Pew survey work was completed earlier last year. Overall, just under one-third typically backed some sort of authoritarian system across the surveyed countries."

Former Trump administration official, Bannon, filed an emergency motion to try to stay out of prison.

Bannon plans to ask the full DC bench to hear his case. Chances are slim that they will take it. He already lost at the DC Appeals court.

Chances are even slimmer that the U.S. Supreme Court will take it.

The Supreme Court declined to hear Navarro's appeal whose contempt of Congress conviction was similar to that of Bannon's. Navarro is currently in prison serving a four-month sentence.

Mace beat the candidate McCarthy had endorsed. Mace was part of the crew that ousted McCarthy from Speaker of the House.

Mace used to be a Trump critic. She turned Trump ally. Mace voted to certify Biden's win in the 2020 election. She criticized Trump for his riot at the Capitol.

Trump at a rally in SC in 2022 called her crazy, a terrible person, and a grandstanding loser. The crowd booed Trump. Trump at other times called her disloyal and nasty and said she was despised by almost everyone.

Trump endorsed Mace's competitor in the 2022 primary who lost to Mace.
