    Bought him a book also.
    He will not stop worrying and thinking at night. All night!

    Has he tried wearing UV light filtration glasses?
    Does he do a desk job or something more physical?

    I still buy coconut milk but not coconut cream as I worked out it was keeping me awake when I should have been sleeping.

    I've tried everything for a few years, I've pretty much given up on a natural good night's sleep. A while back at the doc's I more or less told him I was losing my mind from insomnia - it was making me crazy - and I wasn't leaving the office without an Rx.

    Several styles / strengths of melatonin, ear plugs, eye mask, black out curtains, different pillows, white noise, rain noise, weighted blanket, reading, then you get all in your head you can't sleep, then it just snowballs. I gave up. 5mg of Ambien helps me sleep through the night.... I've taken some on and off over years to help with travel, or just to catch up after a poor night's sleep or such... Yeah, I know it's not a great solution, but I was at the end of my rope. I probably should get off of it, but I tolerate it ok, what's worse - Ambien or losing your mind from no sleep?

    I’m using a Fitbit as part of a respiratory population study.

    it can’t track my sleep worth anything.

    My partner uses it so, but recently discovered some brain chemistry deficits that were causing the insomnia.

    Well, I was at the point I was losing my mind from no sleep.....certainly wasn't that I wasn't tired. I was thinking of weaning off the Ambien...maybe some 3mg for a while, then split those. So what was the solution to the brain chemistry deficits?

    Assuming here that you're soliciting advice from everyone, my main advice is in the first post of this thread:

    Treating Insomnia/sleep market

    The traditional Chinese medicine view of insomnia, like most conditions, is that it can have more than one cause and therefor there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution.

    The Bob Flaws book I mention in the OP might be worth checking out, and I'd recommend trying acupuncture and traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Things like dietary changes and regular meditation practice would probably be a good idea too.

    If you're going to cut back on the ambien, it's probably a good idea to do that in consultation with the prescriber.

    Thanks, I'll check out your advice. Last doc visit, he thought it would be a good idea to wean my way off the ambien..which is my plan. I split a 10mg tablet and take 5mg at night....I'm going to ask for 3 or 5mg tabs that I can split easily and just work my way off it. Life's been pretty hectic for some time now, and it's hard to switch off - and once I awake, my brain starts rolling and that's that...

    Oh, fuck me! o_O

    I've had insomnia all my life, but it really took off when my wife died. The only thing I've found that works, and it doesn't actually work, is grim perseverance.

    I've already tried many of the things mentioned above, but no joy.

    Have you tried edibles? Here, delta-8 gummies are legal and they seem to relax me pretty well. I know others that use them nightly to help them sleep.

    Insomnia is the worst. When you don't sleep, everything else goes to hell....then you get all in your head about NOT sleeping and it makes it worse.

    My discussion with my doctor recently was you have to weigh the two evils, you go crazy and unhealthy not sleeping, or you get stuck on a sleep aid. Once life settles down a bit, I can work on it more.

    Haven't tried edibles. Have tried smokables, vapeables and drinkables.

    I'll try 'em and see if they have a different effect.

    At the very least, it oughta be fun.

    I've taken the chemical route to sleep, at least until I retire....I've given up a while ago..

    With the delta 8 edibles, that are legal here, it's just a mild warm cozy high...great to relax, paired with a good smoky bourbon. Just don't over do it, it takes an hour or so...give it time.
