In many cases it is the recipe, rather than the country of origin.
Milk is one of the most deceptive. Jersey milk comes from Jersey cows, it is simply a breed. If all the Jersey cows were in Jersey, the island would sink.
Aberdeen Angus beef is even worse, again a breed of cattle. Somehow it never tastes the same after using your magnifying glass and reading the label where it was imported from.

 

Large companies are famous for 'backfilling' their products with other brands to keep up with demand. As long as the substituted products are "close enough for company management", alternate sources are used. Sneaky - but not unusual. Same wrapper/packaging - different product.
