That's a long time indoors! Probably because of the weather, however. Bitterly cold here in NorCal lately, now they are predicting SNOW. I like looking at it, but to go out into it, no thanks. My tropical upbringing precludes that. I shiver too much.
Temps are finally back to normal here. After a January in the 30s, it's back up to the 60s here. Pushing 70 in fact
Hagitude by Sharon Blackie Difficult to explain what it is about but here is a review written by author Katherine May - a beloved cult classic ... a myth-infused manifesto for the possibilities for life from middle age onwards. For me it is a book that basically reiterates everything that I believe is possible for elderly women to achieve or just be. There is a poem by Dawna Markova called "I will not die an unlived life" and in it she writes about not fully living because you are always afraid of catching fire. This book encourages women to not be afraid, to be aware that there are still opportunities and possibilities whatever the stage of life.
Well I finished that book. Should have not bothered with something from Blake Crouch. Billed as sci-fi, but more of a mystery. Although there is some plot basis with quantum mechanics and a mysterious 'black box' that offers trips into self-created alternate realities. It descends from there into a mishmash of chase scenes with the main character murdering his alternate selves in hopes of getting back to his own original reality. Not recommended, even though he did write "Wayward Pines."
Currently The Void Captain's Tale, Norman Spinrad author of Child of Fortune. You can't go wrong with a starship powered by an interstellar orgasmic drive. Just finished Pegasus in Flight, Anne McCaffrey and The View From the Center of the Universe, Primack and Abrams
101 True Tales (from the World of Espionage) by Justin Black Tales of mistakes, bad decisions, bad intentions, spies, major mess-ups, etc)
When I was in High School, I had a 1970 Thunderbird that was powered by an orgasmic drive. I took it to drive-in theatres, parks, campgrounds, quiet spots in the countryside... (LMAO!)
It wasn't very good at first----maybe 1 or 2 nights. was about as far as it would go. But the summer before my senior year, I met a college girl, and then the mleage greatly improved! LMAO!!
One of my favorite comedians (Doug Stanhope) gave me this book. I was just talking about this two days ago and wonder where it is.
I am reading the Thursday Murder Club books. Quite entertaining and a bit thoughtful. The characters are quite believable. I must admit I have seen the movie, before starting on the books.
Last book I read was Nightshade by Michael Conneley. It was mainly interesting for the description of life on Catalina Island, it is a murder mystery. So I researched further and found out about the history of the place and how it became the tourist destination it is today due to his development of the island. The nature conservatory with his memorial building, and the so-called Casino are quite well done (as I can see from photos). The casino building is rather grand, but is not a casino, upstairs is a dance hall, downstairs is the most beautiful movie theater I've ever seen, apart from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
