The movie the Last Temptation of Christ came out in 1988, and people were outraged. It talked about a secret love affair between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. But you know, there might be something to that. Other lesser known gospels say they had a relationship. The four canonical gospels seem to show she was special in some way. (She's the only other woman except Mary mentioned by name, which was rare in a misogynistic book like the Bible.) And. The merovingian kings of France in the 700s said they were from an illegitimate love child they had. Hmm.

Who knows,? is right! Some people will belirve anything, especially if there's little or no evidence for it.

Let's see, Jesus never married, never went steady, never even had a date as far as we know.

But he liked to hang with his "bros", late at night in a park. Hmmm....

We're any of his bros married, or gone on dates to falafel parlors? I don't know...

Things that make you go hummmm....

Martin Luther assumed Jesus was married, since that was the norm back then. It was also the norm not to give them much mention. It was a man's world. But the Bible tells us that there were plenty of women followers, they supported the ministry, and Mary Magdalene was probably the most prominent of these, since the she was always mentioned first. In the gospels, she was one of the women at the cross (after the men had fled), and one of the women at the tomb who discovered that Christ had risen. She was the fist person to whom Jesus made an appearance after His resurrection. John 20:11-18.

She has an even more prominent and controversial place in the Gnostic scriptures. The last saying in the Gospel of Thomas (Saying 114} has Jesus making an sexist statement about her, and women in general : "Simon Peter said to them, 'Mary should leave us, for females are not worthy of the life.' Jesus said, "I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit like you males. For every woman who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven." Some scholars (J. J. Buckley; Melissa Harl) give this a metaphorical interpretation. Mary moves to center stage in the Gospel of Mary Magdalene. Peter acknowledges that "the Savior loved you more than the rest of the women"and asks her to "(t)ell us the words of the Savior which you remember – which you know (but) we do not, nor have we heard them.'" Then there is the Gospel of Philip,, which calls her Jesus' koinōnos--which can mean companion, consort, or wife. Philip also tells us that Jesus "used to kiss her on her...." (gap in manuscript) When the disciples ask Jesus why he liked her better than them, He tells them, cryptically, that a sighted man can see the light, while a blind man can't.

But when it comes to children, there are no reliable sources. The best we can do is the dubious sensationalists Michael Baigent, and Richard Leigh ( Holy Blood, Holy Grail), and that dubious legend about Jesus and Mary ending up in the south of France with a kid who founded the Mervoingian Dynasty
