Cannon used the same stall tactic when Smith's federal criminal case against Trump was active.

The 11th Circuit forced Cannon to make a decision about releasing the Smith report. She finally did and sided with Trump.

A period of time had passed from February to mid-December 2025 before Cannon finally responded.

Similarly, Cannon stalled Smith's federal criminal case against Trump for a year and eventually threw the case out entirely, citing that she thinks Smith wasn't legally appointed. It is counter to all legal precedent but agrees with a non-legal, extraneous opinion stated publicly by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas that he thinks Smith was appointed illegally. Cannon just as well could have made such a ruling about Smith over a year earlier.

Political humorists can go to town with that one. A skit with the tune "Twelve Days of Christmas' playing in the background with a series of clips that shows Trump demolishing the East Wing of the White House, arresting and deporting people, spraying tear gas on demonstrators, dropping troops from a Black Hawk helicopter onto the roof of an apartment on the south side of Chicago, and blowing up boats near Venezuela, including a second strike on the same boat that killed two survivors. And shooting a partridge in a pear tree.

 

Trump had said $1 billion. He changed it to $10 billion.
