I voted as I said I would. Socialist Environmental Alliance. I'm hopefully going to the announcement of the results on Monday. 15,000 or more and we've done what we set out to do. 20,000 or more and we've surpassed ourselves. Less than 15,000... bugger.
Sadly I had to vote Labour too in the local elections. They had three candidates standing, along with one from the Tories, one Independant and one BNP Respect got my European vote.
I was proud to vote labour the boos and hisses are what i probaly can expect from a few people thats all. fOR there wrongs conservatives and the Lib-Dems are the only other ones too choose from . The 'big' independants seem 1 dimensional..and would collapse underneath there self rightouse rubbish if given any more resposibilities than making a cup of tea.. I do agree with some of the stuff they say...but you gotta think long term and rationaly not emotionaly.
Yeah man, I hear what you're saying. My sadness comes from having such little choice in the locals. Three Labour candidates compared to one each of the useless parties. I don't think the Lib Dems have ever even tried to stand here, let alone the Green or Socialist parties. So it's just a bit crap having to vote Labour just because you don't want to see the BNP making any ground.
Respect is only standing in a few local elections this year. They've got four councillors so far, three of whom defected from the Labour party over the last four months, and should stand to gain a few more in the selected seats they've decided to stand for. Mainly they're targeting the European and London elections this year. We don't have local elections in my ward this year, if we did I'd probably vote Green in the absence of any Respect candidate, but for the Euro elections I've been campaigning for Respect. Let's see if it pays off....
Respect in European, green in local. I was amazed at the BNP presence in Manchester, it's frightening. And we had BNP literature through the door at home in Banbury (oxfordshire)!! We've never had that.
The BNP literature through your door isn't as worrying as it might seem. Every party is entitled to send a leaflet through the door of every household in the country as part of a free service provided by the Royal Mail. Thankfully I never received one. Many postal workers are refusing to deliver BNP literature as part of their conscience clause, whereby they are not obliged to deliver racist or fascist material. Their union, affiliated to the Unite Against Fascism organisation is backing them, although the BNP are threatening to take the CWU to court over this. I'm glad you voted Respect though Rover, didn't know you were backing them. Are you a member? And in other news, are you going to Glasto, and if so, do you want to camp with us?
