How many of you know and speak to your neighbors, directly beside or accross from you?

Do you think the level of interaction you have with them, has to do with social factors (race, ethnicity, religion, income, interests, culture etc), or location and design factors (the type of housing, the type of neighborhood, the location of the nighborhood)??

I live in an older neighborhood with similar racial, socio-economic characteristics. My neighbor on one side is all right but I really don't like talking to him. He's friendly, but like 20 years older than me. My other neighbor is a total a**hole. His dog runs loose, gets into the yard, and s*its on the lawn. I almost got into a fight with him because I shooed his dog out of my lawn. I told him next time the dog came over, I'd have some antifreeze out waiting for him (hehhehheh). I'm thinking of putting a fence up.
The neighborhood itself is conducive to interaction. Old victorian houses, wide streets, old town, "anytown USA". But most of my friends live in other towns. One lives on the opposite side of my town, and we chill a lot. Not a neighbor though. At least my neighbors aren't crackheads., so it could be worse.

i talk to most of my neighbors. most of the people in my neighborhood have lived their entire lives were they currently live. so i grew up with them. i grew up with their kids. but, some yuppies have moved in...their iffy, i'll say "hi" to them, but i don't speak with them like i do to the neighbors i grew up around. maybe in the future, i'll be able to talk to the yuppies. i mean, they can atleast invite me over for a party once in a while...i'm practically there age.

My neighbors are all black and they all hate me even though they never met me. I that is not me being racist or ignorant. I tried to talk to them and smile when I see them I am always polite and curtious but all I get is them totally ignoring me except to give me a dirty look that says "Why did you talk to me you evil horrable white person?" I swear I never did a single thing to them. I wish I knew why they rejected me off hand like that. We are all in the same boat. I know what the maximum income you can have to live here is and so I know there socio -economic status is similar to mine. If you ask me they are the ones being racist, even though it seems to me like a lot of Black people think they don't have the ability to be racist. Anyway the answer is no I do not talk to my neighbors and I'm sorry if I came off rude or bad with what I said. I am just trying to call it as I see it.

    I loath my neighbors...
The one that moved was the most annoying and noisey neighbor ever.. She would stomp so hard up her stairs that things fell off my wall. She would slam her door so freakin hard it would wake me up and make me think someone was breaking in..
Now the dipshit that lives on the other side thinks hes gods gift to women and hes just a sleeze.. And then the lady two doors down has her freakin dog piss and shit right in front of my door on my mat, so therefore for it ruined my mat and theres piss stains on my door.. Thats okay though, when I move in july I am going to leave a great big pile of used tampons on her door step...

I don't talk to ANY of my neighbors except the old lady upstairs sometimes.

We used to have this AWFUL house next to us with hundreds of apartments in it , millions of kids running around (ok, I'm exaggerating but you get the idea) it was awful. You think of stereotypical scumbag neighbors and they did it all. Destructive chidren, slutty teenagers, drunk and doped up parents, they set fires, they played horrible music really loud, really late, had fights over who fucked who, there was trash everywhere.

Finally the house got condemned. We get a break from them being right next door, but they all moved down the street. It's quiet right now. But I still can't stand the neighborhood.

My landlord bitches about anything he can think of. I smoke too much pot, or I don't work enough, or the rent is late again, or why the hell do you have a cat when your not supposed to have pets, or my dick is hard come stroke it. What a fucker.

My neighbor on the right is an asshole. Weve been next to him for longer than ive been alive, and he sucks. Hes got this bright ass street light pointed directly at my bedroom window. HE told me I made his house smell like "dope" when i was on the other side of my house in a car anyway. His dog stays chained up outside all the time, and never shuts up.

My other neighbor is cool. He just moved in not too long ago. He fixes anything. He smokes pot and stuff, and hes gonna help us fix up our house. Hes a little rowdy, though. But i dont care, so am i.

The guy behind me has a rebel flag flying high off his roof. His house is so small, i dont think it even has a bedroom. Hes an asshole living off disability.

THe guy across the street has only one eye, lost the other one in a paintball accident. Hes the one that got me hip to this kickass local band called LEGACY.

sorry, ganja king but the things you mentioned, I would bitch about if I was a landlord.

People don't think that it is still THIER place, you're just renting it. After you leave it will smell like smoke and cat piss for months.

Also, if you're paying your rent late, that's your own damn fault too. What do you expect your landlord to do? Sit around and not ask to be paid? What if you had a job and didn't get paid for a week? You wouldn't just wait around for it.

All of my neighbors are really nice older people in their 50s and 60s. The one next to us has managed state parks since the 70s. He used to manage Hungry Mother State Park... in Marion, VA... he works at the Yorktown Victory Center in Yorktown, VA now. The one behind us lives in the old guest house that used to be for our house. The one behind us is a vietnam vet (drafted... but he stayed in and retired since he was already in it) and he works for the county public utilities and is a professional clown and landscaper on the side. He also does a lot of shows for the women's abuse clinic here. A really nice guy. The house in front of us is actually an office for a landscape engineer/real estate guy. We don't really see the guy much, though. He's usually busy. (I live on the corner of main street in my town). To our other side, we have a back alleyway beside county offices...

I never see my neighbors, unless I have a cookout or something. The neighbor across the street is a sheriff. The neighbor to my left wants to fuck me. The neighbor to my right, never leaves the house. For some reason, I always see the kids outside, but never the parents.

My neighbors to the left are pretty nice... my family doesn't talk to them as much anymore but they're an older couple. Every year is a competition as to who can find the funnier Channukah card.

On the other side is a girl my age and a boy my brother's age. They're both pretty nice but the girl doesn't talk at all. The boy I've seen at a few concerts and it always freaks me out. :p

Across the street to one side is this family I babysit for that are pretty cool, and the other side is a really screwed up family. I've gotten to be friends with their middle son but the older one once pulled his pants down at the bus stop and stood over me with his dick hanging down. And it wasn't like he didn't know what he was doing, he was 16 or 17 at the time. I had to wait til my neighbor up the street came to get him off of me to get out of the fetal position. At homecoming he went in a limo and fell out of the top drunk. Now he failed out of a college you really just have to breathe to get into. Meh...

I live in a grand old victorian house with a few other apartments that all have college students living in them. I've talked to a few of them, but not alot. I hear them at times, they hear me at times. Can't say I like them or dislike them, just don't really know them.

Have you started saving them yet? [IMG]

My neighbours on either side are student rentals, so they change all the time. One year they had their "purple dye" party next door...that was interesting. (1st year Engineering students from Queen's U dye themselves purple every fall) I don't bother with them, but I know one of the landlords because she comes to take care of the property.
We are friendly with the neighbours behind us, they are an older couple, and my sons are the same age as two of their grandchildren. Our driveways are connected, so I don't mind shovelling snow out of the main bit so they don't have to.
