I think his family -his father's suicide and his mom's car accident- are far worse 'signs of trouble' and all than a flash animation he made... sure it seems creepy now that he made an animation like this and then actually did it... but look around the 'net for a while and there are thousands and thousands of gory flash movies, gory stories, gory pictures, thousands and thousands of people making them, with many more viewing... and only a very, very small percentage of the people who make and/or download these actually commit the crimes they write about. Most people *do* know fantasy from reality, and I refuse to believe that fantasy, even violent fantasy, is really harmful. It's when *other things* happen -like losing both parents in such a nasty way- that people lose touch with reality, not from the fantasy itself.

Oh, absolutely. The kid was dealt a bad hand in life from almost the get-go. I haven't heard whether he was ever in therepy or not, but I would think that if he was, this may not have happened. The flash movie was just shocking to me because he actually ended up playing it out.... If you go and read some of those comments on the movie, and go all the way back, to before he killed himself and those others, you'll see that someone actually commented that he should get help, and he responded that the person must not know the difference between fantasy and reality. In fact, he said basically what you just said here minus the stuff about his parents. Apparently...he couldn't tell the difference after a while...

I disagree, there is a line that can be crossed with violent fantasy...when it goes from being a relatively normal thing, to where it becomes an obsession.

Plenty of times children who are raised in a positive way turn out to be pure psychos.

For instance the kid in Oregon who killed his parents, and then some kids at school maybe 8 years back had both parents who did their best to help him out, get him involved in activities etc. but it didn't work, he snapped one day and went on a rampage.

Sometimes kids are just plain psycho without being abused or coming from a negative background

True, kids from good homes can turn violent too, but I still don't believe that's because of the violent fantasies. Sometimes in good homes something's lacking too... maybe they'll have nice parents but they just can't speak well about some issues, or there's some kind of hormonal or chemical imbalance, or whatever... Way too many kids -almost all boys, and a good lot of girls- like violent games, movies etc... if that were truely harmful, in and by itself, we'd have school shootings every week.

I'm not saying that there is a one on one corrollation, but I think if the wrong mind is exposed to this type of super violent material, it can have a serious effect...the same way that Ted Bundy was attracted to super violent hardcore porn before he started raping and killing.

When a kid is actually drawing animation of himself killing students at his school, I'd say that is a little beyond the normal threshold of violent fantasy, and definitely beyond liking a violent video game or movie.

Check out his profile... apparently his favorite musician is John Lennon.

Why don't I hear some people going after the real cause... classic rock.

Seriously though, troubled kids are always going to find a way to break oour hearts.

Its natural to look around a cause, but you can't overlook the fact that this kid was bullied, his dad killed himself and his mom was in the hospital I think...

It seems like this kid needed more attention, not less violent media.

Thats probably the case, but I don't see a society saturated with violent media getting any less violent, there is definitely something going on with that, even though I don't see it as the primary cause.

I think neglect, abuse, biologic brain problems, and bullying are the main causes.....high school, its like going through a meat grinder here in the united states.
Toubled kids kind of suck, I mean, i might have been argumentative and in dark moods but there is something inherently different with these types.
