You seem to like complex thinkers. How about some Douglas Adams? Last Chance to See is my favorite, but The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is his most popular work. Good Bones and Simple Murders by Margaret Atwood is incredible. She's so messed up, smart though. I think her analysis of "The Little Red Hen" should be required reading for all. I'm reading Napalm and Silly Putty by George Carlin, right now. It's just a bunch of his monologues, jokes, and such. Funny stuff.

If you like Poe, I suggest you read anything by M.R.James, he writes some great ghostly tales, much in the style of Poe. Really creepy and gripping.

Ooooh, in that case, I suggest 'One Thousand White Women' by Jim Fergus. About a group of white women sent to live with a Cheyenne Native American tribe. It really shows the hardships that the Cheyennes faced, all told through the diary of one of the women. It shows how two cultures meet, and combat their differences. It's the only book that's ever made me cry.
