So I've heard that beans is kind of important when you're vegetarian, but what do I do with them? Heat them up? Put them in something? And there is all these different types, what goes with what? Feel kinda stupid, but whatever...
My friend who is a vegitarian replaces meat with beans. So if a Recipie askes for meat she thinks of some kind of bean to replace it. She makes this really yummy pizza with black beans.
Beans are important...and my parents try to sneak them into every meal..I yhink soy beans are good...but I tried eating them on a salad, and alone, with no other flavors they are nasty, so try to but them in something, like tacos or other...just not alone.
Legumes overall are important,-especially for Vegans. Beans, fungi, and grains are a Vegan's only protein source. I'm vegetarian, so I have more. Beans are fun to use! Many meat substitutes include beans or grains. But I, personally, prefer lentils!
My favorite way to eat them is with rice. Just go to any grocery store and pick up a bag of dried beans and...follow the cooking instructions. They're SO cheap and extremely versatile. And yummy.
Oh man, where do I start...there are many different things to make with beans! Stick 'em in a salad if you're lazy, otherwise cook them along with some paprika, corn and tomatoes/tomato sauce for a yummy chili, or make a warm bean and potato salad with vinegar... You can do anything with them basically, what it tastes like in the end is all about the spices anyway.
don't feel stupid...beans are underrated to alot of people apart from veg*ns and certain other cultures i think. they are very versatile. you can make burgers just with leftover beans, grain and some spices or chik peas into falafel, or lentils in shepherds pie mmmm...do a google on beans to find out about soaking methods and cooking times. check out ethnic food sections in the grocery store to see some different canned kinds. they are very freezable and leftover friendly too
Beans are a fantastic base for sauces. You can stick them in the blender with water and either strain out the paste (use that in patties and or soups or loaves or whatever) and use the watery stuff for smooth sauces, or leave everything together for a thick, goopy sauce for your rice or veggies. They also make nice spreads and dips. Findings: -Pinto and romano beans are great on a pizza -Black beans are good with corn -Chick peas are great with avacado -All beans are terrific with onions and/or garlic -Black eyed peas can be mashed and used in almost anything with good results -Lentils "melt" in a soup and give broths a nice flavour and body Happy beaning!
