Hey guys...Lynrd Skynrd is coming near my town to perform and I was wondering if anybody who has heard them perform lately knows whether or not they're a good show to see these days??? Let me know please
I went last year... It was great!!!! Even though I had shitty seats (partial view) I was still awesome... I would go if I were you...
Thanks for the info : ) .....with the price of some tickets these days it's always a good idea to check and make sure you'll get your moneys worth out of a show ya know.
Yeah I would definately go!! bsabbath - My dad got to see the original members years ago, lucky him!!
yeah they do put on a pretty good show for not being the original memebers (not that i ever saw the originals). you just gotta put up with all the redneck racist hillbillies running around (well, where i live in michigan, everyone thinks they're from the south...ugh)
yes whats left of them is good. they usually have a good opener too. i saw them play with canadian rag weed and sammy hagar peace, bob
I would kill somebody, in front of their own mama, to see the original skynyrd! I remember seeing this tape in my mom's room with a song called "Poison Whiskey" when I was 9 yrs old, and ever since then I've been a "Whiskey-Rock-a-Roller" and a HUGE fan! My mom and dad saw them at the Fox in Atlanta when they were recorded playing Freebird live. I'm so jealous I could spit, but they gave me the Skynyrd vinyl copy of their first major album, Pronounced (Leh-nerd Skeh-nerd). I guess that kinda makes up for it, but man... I only wish Ronnie hadn't died back in the day... If he was around, so would Allan, and we'd all be partying to some major rockout tunes. I dunno if Ronnie would have supported his bro's view of the war and all that... Ronnie wasn't into violence at all... he was kinda a swamp hippie, but as long as they aren't playing that god awful red white and blue song, it's all gravy man!
there arent many people who share my respect and admiration for lynryd skynryd.......I wish there was more people like you around my city who have the same feelings towards them as you guys do
i heard they were touring with the allman brothers again this summer? anyone have any info on that? if thats the case i'd go for sure to see the allmans, becuase they kick ass, but skynyrd are a bunch of racist rednecks. if you want to see southern rock at its best right now, check out the Drive-By Truckers! www.drivebytruckers.com
I don't much care for skynard or their fanbase, but it would be worth sitting through their crap to see the Allman Brothers in my opinion. The Allman Brothers have deep roots in the blues and gospel music of the south and respect for the black culture that music comes from. Skynard are a bunch of racist redneck dumbasses. I was in New York City going to a gathering at Alex Grey's chapel of sacred mirrors (which is fucking awesome by the way, and you should all check it out if you're ever in NYC www.sacredmirrors.org) the night before the start of the republican national convention, hanging out with all kind of protesters and other weirdos, with drumcircles and dancin and havin a good 'ol time, and who should I see, right across the street but Lynard Skynard, performing at a benefit concert FOR I will repeat, FOR the Republican National Convention. Now, I'm not saying I hate a band for being conservative, your opinions are your opinions, but who in their right mind could possibly think that the Republicans NEED MORE MONEY??? Jesus Christ!! Aren't there some starving kids down in Appalachia they could feed with that money? Some friends of the south they are. To quote Hunter S. Thompson: "I piss down the throat of these nazi scumbags".
I've heard that they are performing with the Allman Bros. too....as for tickets and dates the only thing I can find was at www.ticketmaster.com and the website only says that they're performing one show in May taking place in Alabama.....it'd be sweet if they set some more dates
i see them every year =) if your into nascar shirts and rebel flags you will be in heaven lol, nah its good tho they put on a good show
Skynyrd isn't racist it's just their fans and everyone at the concert...but the allman brothers would be phenomonal...but why would you say they are racists...i gues because they're form the south? well so am i and some of my best friends aren't white...you guys are the ones who are wrong here...making stereotypes...alot of southern give us a bad image but we aren't all ignorant people down here.
This thread made me flash back on the 70's, we used to go see the original Lynrd Skynrd whenever we could, I even saw them in Maryland while visiting a friend in the D.C. area (1975 maybe?). We were huge fans. And even now I love Drive by Truckers coz they remind me of those days (prob a bad comment to make coz DBT is so different but still, they remind me of the fun southern times). Free Bird live I will never forget; it still gives me chills to hear it. About the racist labels though, even growing up in the south I never understood racism. I still don't. Maybe I'm naive (and glad sometimes). I am embarrassed to admit this but we used to take Confederate flags to Skynrd shows, not as a show of being racist but because we were just proud of being southern. I didn't even know til I was grownup that that was a racist symbol, I apologize, I really did not know. We just thought southern music was so cool, Allmans, bluegrass, Black Oak Arkansas, Charlie Daniels Band, Marshall Tucker Band, etc. Just what we heard a lot, and were lucky enough to have those bands travellin the south all the time so we could go see them live. Also always loved Delta blues, r&b (old school stuff), reggae, just all kinds of music, roots music. Good music, good times.
who said they were racist????? I AM TOO LAZY TO READ EVERONES POST haha. ALL I SAID WAS something bout the confederate flag, and that doesnt mean i am callin em racist but they sure do love to fly that thing on stage when they come to North Carolina...
that's what I mean, I don't think it's racist to fly the rebel flag. but somehow since years ago it has come to mean that to some people. I think it's just southern pride, no racism enters into it. I never understood that anyway, coz I don't think like that. But you know how symbols are....some group pollutes their meaning and then it's never the same.
