"OLD" hippie?

somehow this 'title' doesn't strike me as...cool, hip, now, neo,....etc? would it b possible to change this? I think 'ORIGINAL' would b alot better? feel free to add ur 'title'? I think if i was an original hippie and i saw this heading, it would make me feel washed up, out of it, 'OLD' , useless, not in the game, .....etc,...get my meaning? this is my dads opinion and I think he should have a say? comment?

When some kid at Wendy's gives me a senior discount on a soda without asking, that's OLD! I used to think that "middle-aged" is whatever age your parents are, but now that my mom's been a widow for 6 years and will be 80 this year, I realize it's what I am!

 

Old hippy isn't really correct......we are the "original" hippies, we set the precedence for the new way of thinking, and we paved the road for the newer generation of hippies coming our way. With some encouragement for the newer crew, hopefully we can mend this violent lifestyle of this age and get back to the way it should be.

 

Speak for yourself My wive* is 6 years older than you (9 years younger than me to the day), and she calls me "Old One"!

I don't like labels. Most of the time thay are used to get someone to spend money they don't have...

Age is a number. You're only as old as you feel. I know, I sound like a freakin' Geritol commercial. Sorry.

 

I can remember the 'fifty year old Hippie' comics back when I was younger.I was never fond of being called a hippie,and I thought I was too young to be one since the fad seemed to pass around '70. Now I'm 52 and I don't know what the heck is going on.

I find the idea of "Original" hippies is interesting.

Dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=original) gives the following as the definition of "original":

1. Preceding all others in time; first;
2. Not derived from something else; fresh and unusual;
3. Showing a marked departure from previous practice; new
4. Productive of new things or new ideas; inventive
5. Being the source from which a copy, reproduction, or translation is made.

I think an "original hippie" would be one that remembers what it was like before there were hippies. Would remember President Kennedy, music before the Beatles, and the world before Viet Nam. As the years went by many joined in and some have stayed long enough to be "Old" hippies.

I think that is true, but I feel that there are some very "original" young freaks these days. My daughter and her husband are more "original" and "hippie" in thier thoughts and deeds than most folks I know, and they are very young, "fresh and unusual!" She has some friends that would never call themselves hippies (they are punks!) but by thier lives they live out the ideals that we "original" folks did. I don't know....I always did hate labels!

I fully agree with what you said. I was refering to "original" only as far as the timeline goes. I have also found that there are a LOT of them that are intellegent, informed, creative, and commited in their thoughts and deeds. They give me great hope for the future.

Young, old, blue, green as long as you aren't calling me dead, I'm happy! But original has a nice, "own it" ring to it.

 

I've told people that the only thing being older means is that I've been at the party longer.
