I was wondering if anyone could help me with a small problem... I'm from Tennessee.. smack in the middle of the bible belt. Which is fine, but I've run into a lot of negative feelings towards my spiritual beliefs, and lack thereof. Because I am a huge minority around here, and many people are not educated about different beliefs, people assume things about me and look down on me before they even really know who I am. Even if someone knows I am a good person, and then they find out that I am not a Christian, many times this person will alienate me from there on out. Does anyone have some advice as to what I can say when someone begs me to come to their church, or makes a negative comment? I work with patients in a physical therapy clinic, so I run into this quite a bit. Any advice would be much appreciated!
As you stroll through life, sometimes you have to go along (to a degree) in order to get along. I often smile and simply say "thank you" without making any type of committment. If the issue is pressed, then I smile and say "no thank you". You will never convince someone that your path is better suited to you than their path. Especially in the bible belt. Convincing a Xtian that you are right means convincing them that they are wrong. Ain't gonna happen without a lobotomy. Occasionally you simply have to give up and move to where the food is...
haha, thanks. That's what I've been doing quite a bit, but I guess it's just hard to go along with some things people say. I usually don't try and explain myself, but sometimes I'd like to! That helps a lot, I really appreciate that!
