12 days 'til we touch down in the Stoner's Mecca to jam with The Mule! http://mule.net/index.php Speaking of which, have any of you/yours attended a live music gig at The Melkweg? We wanna get there in time to get up close, since it's general admission, and just wondering how early that should be. I figure we should have plenty of time to partake at some of the above-mentioned shops, check in to our hotel and take some of the goodies to make the wait a tad more comfortable. Any advice would be appreciated. 12 days! 288 hours!!!
I've seen Santana,Chicago,Blood-Sweat & Tears,The Who,Robin Trower,Joe Cocker,Richie Havens,Jefferson Airplane,Eric Clapton,Manfred Mann,Neil Young and Crazy Horse,The Turtles,Black Sabbath,Ravi Shankar,Steppenwolf,The Jeff Beck Group,Iron Butterfly,Canned Heat,Free,The Guess Who,Stevie Wonder,The Association,The Righteous Brothers,Peter-Paul & Mary,The Dobie Bothers and Steely Dan..
lol...I'm gonna go out on a limb and take that as a "yes" WE1. Thanks Life...so, with doors at 7:30, if you wanted to make sure you were gonna get close to the stage, what time would you wanna get there? Do you see the line forming before 7 or so?
To me it would only make sense to burn one at 4:20, then go see how long the line is. No line...go back for more. Line...make sure you have plenty to toke on while you wait. Just my opinon.
i just got back from amsterjam (www.amsterjam.com) at the melkweg.....what a trip! the "milky way" is an awesome venue--one of my favorites ever(and i've been to A LOT)...the sound rocks, and besides being ALLOWED to smoke pot inside, there is a cafe inside, and tables to roll joints on.....and chillllll......also an art gallery inside......there are actually 2 rooms for shows...both very small and intimate.....there were posters up for the gov't mule show when i was there. YOU GUYS ARE GONNA HAVE A FUCKING BLAST you can smoke anywhere inside or outside of the venue. my advice: DO NOT buy pot from the "bulldog" or the "grasshopper". it sucks and it's overpriced. go to "amnesia" and get the NYC Sour Diesel! also, go to the "rokerij". they're a small chain, and there's one right near the melkweg.
also, for you americans: the dollar sucks ass right now. you'll be getting around .67 eurocents for a dollar, and everything is typical city prices. so bring extra money. PEACE!
Based on Melonhead's post we simply need to score some of the locals finest and head to the venue. Just so I understand this one completely...there is a venue where we are going to see one of the best guitar players of all time that allows you to smoke. And provides tables for you to roll on? Now that is worth the flight over the pond.
Thanks Melonhead. After that I'm actually more stoked than I was originally, though I didn't think that was possible! As far as Prog's reference to "one of the best guitar players of all time", he wasnt exaggerating. If you've never heard Warren Haynes play and you're anywhere near A'Dam, you wouldn't regret getting into that show. It's sold out but I'm assuming there will be scalpers there just as they've been around for every American event. 8 DAYS
Hey now, Don't forget one of the best drummers of all time while you're at it. I'll be thinking of you guys. Have a blast and smoke some for me, a fellow Mulehead. Rock ON!
I saw String Cheese there and 2 nights of Ekoostik Hookah last March. Great venue, very small and intimate - not a bad seat in the house. I will say that in Europe, the capacity of clubs must not be governed as strictly as it is here in the States. I don't know how many people were at the String Cheese show in the larger of the two venues, but man, you couldn't breath in there. It was a great show and all, but I was happy to get out of there at the end of it. I have never experienced a venue that was so packed to the rafters and I have been to hundreds of shows in many different places.
Helluva point, my man. Would be wrong for excluding Matt Abts - killer drummer. Actually, Danny Louis (keyboards) is no slouch and Andy Hess (bass) is off the hook as well! Man, can't believe I'm actually gonna see my favorite band in the coolest city on Earth! 7 DAZE!!!
