Im winding down my holiday weekend by listening to Billy Bragg and Wilco- Mermaid Ave Vol 1. Good shit. My friend was telling me today that he has been reading Dylan's Biography and Guthrie's poetry which is used for mermaid ave Vol 1 and Vol 2 was mentioned in the book. When Dylan was visiting Woody Guthrie as he was dying in the hospital guthrie mentioned all this poetry and stuff he had in his basement that he wanted Dylan to take and do something with and put to music. So Dylan goes to the Guthrie resident and only the baby sitter and little Arlo were there, neither who knew anything about the poetry. So anyways Wilco and Billy bragg eventually got hold if the poetry and produce this. pretty damn good album and i thought it was a cool story. Makes you wonder what it would have been like if Dylan would have gotten his hands on it in the first place.
