Yay! I'm so excited. I finally just did it. Me and my sister said we were going together, and yesterday we did it. I love it, it looks great! But this swelling is bugggggggging me to no end. I was SOOOO HUNGRY yesterday and couldn't eat barely anything. I stocked up on yogurt, ice cream, and pudding.... but other than just rinsing with listerine after everything, is there anything else I can do to help it heal faster? Any extra pointers and tips for me?
hey, sorry i feel like i'm buggin everyone! anyway, a salt water wash is really good for mouth piercings; dissolve a few teaspoons of salt into hot water, wait untill it cools and then rinse round your mouth like you do with mouthwash. (then spit out!) do this twice a day. it tastes horrible but it stops any infection and will help the piercing heal. lillyblu x
I was told that you shouldn't be using listerine. The alcohol is too harsh and can actually prolong the healing process by killing off the new skin cells. When I got mine done(over 6 yrs ago), they gave me a special mouthwash that killed the germs without the harshness of alcohol. You should look into it. Lena
when I had mine done, I was told not to use any dairy products. The bacteria in them doesn't help the healing. And the salt water thing is true....it really helped me. And definately go for the ice cubes! lol My own personal little piece of advice....make sure that it's always tight.....mine came loose one day, I didnt realize it and as I went to inhale and yell something, it flew into the back of my throat and I swallowed it....:& Happy healing!
I heard the same thing... Listerine is very harsh... You can quickly get chemical burn from it..... Id try not to use it to much and use that salt water instead... You could also go to the store and buy some Zinc... Zinc promotes healing...
I agree with using the salt water for it's healing properties. Dairy products are a NO! NO! Oh yeah, Icee's were my favortie thing to eat/drink after I got mine done almost 7 years ago. LOL
Stay sucking on icecubes like it goin out of style! Thats what helped mine heal. I would always spin the bar around in the hole. I was told that this helped from the hole scabin to the bar. But I dunno if there any truth to it helpin it heal faster! No kissing or oral sex for a while either!
I've had my tongue pierced almost 3 years now and the following advice is spoken from experience... First off... for swelling, ice chips are the best way to deal with it. I was working at a movie theatre when I got my tongue pierced and the VERY next day I had to work a double shift in the box office on a weekend. I had to talk for 11 hours straight. Ice chips are the way to go period. Secondly, if you are not using a salene wash in your mouth, you will pay for that. It cuts healing time *at least* in half. And someone told you how to make that wash and they left out very important factors. #1: distilled water ONLY. You can get a gallon at the grocery store for a buck or two. #2: you must use kosher salt or any other form of salt (preferable not to chunky) that has NO ADDITIVES such as iodine, etc like Morton brand salt does. It needs to be just plain old pure salt. Other chemicals will impair healing and I am serious on this. The formula is I believe 3 tablespoons salt to one gallon water. No need to heat it, just poar the salt into the water, shake and let sit fir a little while. One important note about the salene wash. Dont use it more than around 5 times a day. Try to do it when you get up and then after any meals you have and before bed. Using it much more than 5 times a day is bad and can fuck up the tissues in your inner cheeks and tongue. Also, dont take it out for a WHILE. Right now your tongue is probably swollen to twice it's normal size. THat means, getting one of those bars in now would hurt badly and be very hard to do. Also, since it's such a fresh piercing, it will heal back within hours if you remove it. Another thing to know is that even years after you get it pierced, if you take it out for more than 8 hours, you risk a pretty big chance of not getting it back in. Tongue piercings close up faster than any other piercing you can get. When you got it pierced, they probably used an extra long bar about 1in long. Get that replaced with something closer to 5/8in after you're healed up. Failing to do so will fuck your teeth right up. Dont believe me? wait and see. Some no-no's: kissing, smoking, coffe, soda, mouth wash with acahols in it, any kind of noodles (trust me!), any alcahol. Also, dont eat yogart. It contains active cultures that are not your piercing's friend even if they are your digestive tract's friend. Also, when brushing your teeth, use something mild like Tom's of Maine. Regular toothpase has chemicals that impair healing. If your tongue swells to the point where your piercing bar has no slack left on it and the balls are starting to push into your tongue, go to your piercing shop ASAP. If you cannot get to them soon (like they are closed for the day) and ice is not working any, you need to take it out. It's a bummer to bail on the piercing like that but you will pay dearly for not listening to that piece of advice. Oh and I should mention jewelry materials... Sergical grade stainless steel is THE BEST thing to use by far. Dental grade acrylics, titanium and nioblium are the only other materials I would EVER use. Make sure to ask your piercing shop what they have. If they don't know weather their jewelry is sergical grade stainless, leave right there and then. They are idiots not to know, and even bigger idiots if they are using regular grade stainless. One last thing. If you take it out and it heals on you, getting it repierced can hurt very badly unlike your initial piercing which if done right should have been almost painless. Take it from me, I learned many valueable lessons while I've had this piercing.
i had mine done for a while, when I took it out the back of my front teeth were pretty fawked up from it..... I am gonna eventualy have to get some dental work done so there is no way I wold get it done again... be careful and take care of your mouth and don't bite down on it... you could chip your teeth
i had mine for a couple of years, just couldn't take it anymore!! the roof of my mouth hurt all the time and sometimes the constant rubbing caused for open sores-NO GOOD!!!- my friend is a dental hygenist and advised me not to do it because she had seen sooooo many messed up teeth cuz of it. fortunately i never incurred such a problem but it really scared me when the roof of my mouth was an open sore!! good luck.. oh and my boyfriend didn't like it too much either!
So, no yogurt? Coz I ate half a small container today. I normally never eat yogurt but I got it trying to get creative with as many soft foods as possible. It started bleeding really bad today, I think I twisted it somehow and irritated it, but I'm ok now. My tongue IS at least double the size that it normally is, and it's really pissing me off, I can barely talk, it's just getting annoying. I want this fucker to heal asap. I have a feeling my diet is going to consist of soup, and popsicles for like the next 2 weeks.
i dont really have any advice, other than dont bite down on it, and suck on ice.. thatll prolly be the best thing... ill be sending you the GOOOOD HEALING VIBES!! lol
