okay i had my first urinary trach infection a few weeks ago, i went to the doc and got a perscription for some meds that cleared it up in a day or two. well now i am having veryvery minor symptoms that make me feel like i am going to get another one. i have heard that sometimes the meds dont fully work and it will come back, but my question is, since i have heard of people who get these quite often, everytime you have one do u hafto keep going back to the doctor, get tested for it, and wait 30 min. to be able to get meds? like, can they just refil a perscription? i would imagine if you had persistant uti's it would be a bit annoying having to constantly return to the doc to pee for them when u could just pop a pill for it to go away...and does anyone know of anything i can take or do to make it go away naturally seeing as that it hasnt fully arrived yet i just have a feeling i may be getting one, i am loading up on cranberry juice and water to flush it out.. anything else that has helped you in the past? any help would be much appreciated, i really need it.

As far as the cranberry juice goes you have to drink the fresh stuff you normally can get only from a healthfood store and its a lot more bitter since there isn't any extra sugar in it. Also drink barrals of water.

or you could buy pure cranberry extract pills. if there isn't a natural foods store around, try GNC or your nearest pharmacy. i had one of these recently, and i went to the doc and got the antibiotics. since i have the advantage of working at a natural foods cooperative, i had access to the cranberry extract pills, and i bought a bottle. i drank assloads of water and took a pill every 4 to 5 hours. it won't hurt you to do this. the cranberry will help keep the bacteria from sticking to the walls of your bladder/urethra. so, buy some cranberry pills, take a lot of them, drink a lot of water to keep flushing, pee when you need to, and you should be okay. and call your doctor to see if they'll just call the prescription in for you if it does come back. viva la cranberry!

Cranberries are the way to go, but you can't use cranberries to treat an active urinary infection. They are effective for prevention, so get that infection cleaned up and start with the cranberries. Hope you are feeling better.

Regular, nonorganic cranberry juice has always worked fine with me, and I've had chronic bladder and urinary tract infections 2-3 times a year since I was 3. I get better faster drinking a gallon or two of that along with water than just water itself.

One the returning to get medicine thing- my doctor is my best friend's dad and since he knows me so well, he knows that I know my body well enough to be able to tell when I have a bladder infection. Only in really bad cases where I'm afraid it might have spread to my kidneys (never has happened thankfully) do I really go to the doctor. I just call the doctor and get another prescription or even normally I have an extra supply at home. Just make sure you keep it up with that water and you could make yourself better, but if the symptoms persist for more than a day or so, definatly go to the doctor.

dissolving a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in some water or herbal tea (green tea or chamomile are the best) will neutralise your wee and help with symptoms (although won't clear up the infection)

drinkin shit loads of water like everyone has said is really the best thing to do along with cranberry juice.

try adding parsley to foods or dandelion leaves to salads as they both have diuretic properties which will make you wee and therefore flush out your system. there are others but i can't think of them right now!

    hope you're feelin better. x
