Does anyone here live in an earthship or where I could get info on contractors to build one? I am thinking of building one, and was wondering how efficient they are.
Yeah! someone else cares (or knows) about earthships!!! I don't live in one, but I want to one day. but i think they could get expensive to build. anyway hang on a sec...
http://www.spiritgarden.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=323 http://www.earthships.com/Story/tires.htm There's also some material made of cement and recycled styrofoam that's really efficient and easy to build with. I forget what it's called, though. RVC or something like that. It's got a couple names.
i think that they come from new mexico or arizona. the kid who gave me my banjo bought one, and is now learning how to build them. the frame basically consists of old tires off of cars that are stacked and cemented together. thier best feature is how they manage water. the roofs are desisigned to collect water, its then filtered and run to the kitchen. after it goes through the sinks and whatnot i believe it is then filtered again and runs to the toilet. all the water is constantly reused, excpet for that which goes through the toilet. the earthships use alot of different green technology together. they are very practicle for deseert living, but im turned off by the use of so much trash in thier construction. i prefer 'cob' as a building material, which is all natural. the tires are scary for me, because i do not know how they breakdown, or the other nonruber components of them. earthships are a very cool idea though.
