1. Analog computers (pre leet, super olde school post eniac but only just) Had damn good a.i. but no one has looked at it since we got quick digital computers

Why not? shouldn't we be examining all facets? Why are Quantum computers the hot word?

Hey if I can't get Windows to work like it should (who can) then there is no way in hell that I want any sort of AI running around! Imagine what might happen when there's a bug in the program???

As to Quantum comp they are simply faster! Soon enough we are going to reach to speed capacity of modern chip design and for some reason having a 10 GHZ machine just won't be good enough.

  3. 1. there is ai running around, if very rudimentary
    2. you could build an analog computer that could operate on light and go stupidly fast
    3. Just saying why aren't we looking in other dierctions, invention doesn't just have to go up, it can go sideways too

p.s. I've gotten every version of windows (excluding ME, 95, nt, media center and any other wacky versions I may not know about) to work, from 3.0 (yes 3.0 it was a sad sad day without drag and drop on a retro computer) up through xp pro

It's not that AI research (one of my favorite topics) is dead, but it's stuck. Nobody manages to discover anything new. There is the so called "nouvelle AI" that may have some potential, but I doubt even that. As for quantum computers, they have nothing to do with AI since the problem now is not processing power but algorithms and the yet to be answered question "what the fuck is this intelligence thing anyway, and how do we do it?"

Not to mention in any fiction where AI is created, it never coexists with humanity. Either humans or the AI are destroyed, i.e. Matrix, War Games, etc.
