Okay, i have these spots on my arm and back, they are like lighter areas than my normal skin tone, due to scarring mostly from acne when i was younger. i really want to wear a tank top this summer because i have never been able to due to me not feeling comfortable with my discoloration..(its not even that noticeable its mostly in my head) so i was wondering about using sunless tanner lightly on my arms where its discolored, do you think it would work? or have any solutions about how to make me more even-toned... my main question is, if you have tried sunless tanner, are there any that dont make you orange or smell funny? i dont care to have a tan, especially a fake one, but i am just considering my options, and wondering about your experiences with certain sunless tanners. thanks
Sunless tanners are crap. I had a friend go through the exact same thing with acne scarring, and she tried using them and it made the scars more pronounced, because it tanned the skin but left the scars the same. And the "tanned" skin turned a dark orange, it really looked awful. It may have been the tanner she used, but with this situation instead of risking it I'd say just go out I have loads of scars from about a million and a half different things, and it took me a long time to be willing to go out in public with just a tank/tube/halter top. But I just went out with some friends one day, and it felt great Maybe look into some scar medication, I tried some cream to help reduce the appearance and it worked a little bit, but I've seen it work wonders for some people. thanks, know any good creams that i should try? i tried esoterica or something like that, most are for dark spots, my problem is they are light spots argh. and yeah i agree, with my experience sunless tanners have been shit.

sunless tanners are better than tanning booths, so good call on not getting a lot of damaging uv rays. 'cause (and i may be wrong) i think tanning beds emit the bad kind of uv. flowerchild is right, though, scar tissue doesn't really tan. i've never used sunless tanning, so i don't know if all kinds turn you orange. i've seen a few of my friends turn orange, though, so i think flowerchild is right about that one, too. maybe they have some fancy expensive ones that won't do that, though? i have another idea... what about putting makeup on the scars? i really dont know much of anything about makeup, but some types you can just dab on specific areas, i believe. or maybe some sort of makeup creme that you can smooth on. i'm not really sure. as long as it doesn't look like you have makeup on your arms, it might do the trick. you could also talk to a dermatologist. they might know of some special tanning cremes, and maybe there are some specifically for scars, or a prescription-strength scar reducing creme. or perhaps they would have some arm make up tips, or know if 'body makeup' exists.
I've tried several sunless tanners and no, they didn't turn me orange, they're pretty nice really... I can't remember brand names though, the only one I still have a bottle of is Etos store brand but as far as I know there's no Etos in the US. And it wouldn't work for scars; scars and light patches are places where the pigment in your skin is lacking... the tanners I've used activate the pigment so they won't do shit on any place of your skin where you don't have that! You'll need a camouflage stick or something, that'll work better.
I think lawngirl is on to something. I'd try a waterproof liquid foundation or concealer to correct the color. If face foundation doesn't work, there is also makeup made specifically for the body, like to cover up tattoos for weddings, etc. You should look into it. Good luck.
I tried sunnless tanners and i didnt like them very much... I wasnt to orange.. but its hard to get the right coverage to make it look even.... I would defiantly look into make-up... A liquid foundation should work... Just make sure its matches your skin tone...
i would try a bronzing powder or liquid. bonnebell makes a great powder, in a few different shades, its just called powder bronze and its super cheap, 3 or 4 dollars maybe. you can apply that with a blush brush and see what happens... i think they also make a liquid bronzer but i have never tried that... good luck!
