Where did you get this kind of information? Who said muslim charity funds refuse(its a large word) to help others? I don't know how many help/or do not help others but do explain this to me; Why should they help others when they themselves are in adversities, one after another? Would you save 2 very close relatives or 2 unkown people? They are starving, bleeding and without homes, why should we not focus on saving our ailing brothers and sisters if there is a possibility? Giving charity is a good thing, wether the one who takes it is muslim or not. “And they give food, in spite of their love for it (or: for the love of Him) to the poor, the orphan and the captive” [Quran al-Insaan 76:8]. 547. Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (peace and blessing of Allah beupon him) never said `no' to anyone who asked him for anything. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. 553. A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) and he gave him a herd of sheep scattered between two mountains. When he returned to his people, he said to them: "O my people! Embrace Islam because Muhammad gives like one who has no fear of poverty.'' Some people would embrace Islam only for worldly gains, but soon Islam becomes dearer to them than the world with all what it contains. [Muslim]. A bedouin met him and pulled the mantle so violently that I saw this violent pulling leaving marks of the border of the mantle on the skin of the neck of the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessing of Allah be upon him). And he (the bedouin) said: Muhammad, issue command that I should be given out of the wealth of Allah which is at your disposal. The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) turned his attention to him and smiled, and then ordered for him a gift (provision).[Muslim Book 005, Number 2296]
Actually, you pretty much stated that muslums are only interested in helping other muslums This was discussed in another thread. If the two very close relatives were Christians, and the two unknown people were members of Islum or another false religion, I'd feel obligated to save the strangers. It would be a shame for them to be killed without at least haveing the chance to realize that Jesus is the true savior.
Judging that one group of people is better than another is a sin in nearly all religions. Perhaps both of you should consider that.
"I'd feel obligated to save the strangers. It would be a shame for them to be killed without at least haveing the chance to realize that Jesus is the true savior." umm nothing bad really, but if u say "I'd fell obligated to save" the savior is you right? Not Jesus , hehe
Disarm is right... Tom, there are good and bad organizations in every religions the same way there is good and bad people. If you ever need help ask a true muslim and he/she will help you for sure.
Here's a question -- according to the Koran it seems pretty evident that Pagans and non-believers are doomed. But will Jews and Christians who lead good lives be able to go to Heaven? I do know that the Koran says that a good Muslim should not have close friendships with non-Muslims but again I am not sure the status of the "people of the book".
That was indeed an interesting questions. The ones who lived during the time of Christ(peace be upon him) and did not accept and refused his message are among the inhabitants of hell, everyone was compelled to follow his laws until the coming of Muhammed(peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) therfor you find verses like: Verily, those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians (Sabi'in), whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.[2.62] But this is concerning those jews and christians who use to live at that time but if you deny one messenger it is like you have denied them all. Thus the jews are not helped at all by their belief in Moses(peace be upon him) as they denied Jesus(peace be upon him), the same applies to christians who denied Muhammed(may peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) Secondly, there are some people(from different religions) that never even got a chance to hear the message of monotheism. I do not know what their fate according to the christians are but I do not the statement from my prophet(peace and blessing of Allah be upon him): “There are four (who will protest) to Allaah on the Day of Resurrection: the deaf man who never heard anything, the insane man, the very old man, and the man who died during the fatrah (the interval between the time of ‘Eesaa (Jesus, upon whom be peace) and the time of Muhammad SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)). The deaf man will say, ‘O Lord, Islam came but I never heard anything.’ The insane man will say, ‘O Lord, Islam came but the children ran after me and threw stones at me.’ The very old man will say, ‘O Lord, Islam came but I did not understand anything.’ The man who died during the fatrah will say, ‘O Lord, no Messenger from You came to me.’ He will accept their promises of obedience, then word will be sent to them to enter the Fire. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if they enter it, it will be cool and safe for them.”
Yoohoo! Oh, here you are! The original question of this thread was and still is: I respond: To date, no one has answered with a single Muslim charity that is extends its charity to non-Muslims. Not even this forum’s resident Muslim bothered to answer the question but merely began to quote Koranic verses. There’s a list of charitable Muslim organizations at http://www.msa-natl.org/resources/Relief_Orgs.html from where I found the example below. Not a single one states that it helps non-Muslims. Islamic-American Zakat Foundation 4323 Rosedale Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814 Phone: 301-907-0997 (Imad Ahmad, President) Email:dean.ahmad@iad.blkcat.com Focus: The Islamic-American Zakat Foundation use donations in a variety of ways from helping the homeless in the greater Washington area to aiding the victims of natural disasters and man-made atrocities around the world. Among the things we do: helping to feed and clothe Palestinian children; helping needy American Muslims keep their homes and their utilities turned on (helped over 100 Americans with energency shelter and food assistance); distributing Qur'ans to prisoners and hospital patients; helping war victims in Chechnya, Bosnia, and Kashmir (all three countries have large Muslim communities, of course) ; assisting stranded travellers to return home. Mission: We supply assistance for food, shelter and clothing for poor and needy individuals and families as prescribed in the Qur'an. Of course, we mustn’t judge Islam by the above actions by Muslims or, as the resident Muslim said in another thread, those who claim to be Muslims (referring to non-Sunni Muslims) for Muslims, oh no, we must judge Islam by what is written in the Koran. Okay, let’s do just that by repeatedly squawking whatever sundry Koranic verse you like but one thing is what is written in sacred scripture and another is what’s actually done. From http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=14152 : "...At Islam Online’s "Live Fatwa" page, Dr. Sano Koutoub Moustapha, professor of Jurisprudence at the International Islamic University in Malaysia, answers questions about whether it is permissible for Muslims to aid non-Muslim victims of the tsunami: Live Fatwa! (Hat tip: pounce_uk.) Name: Mary Question: It is permissible for us, as Muslims, to make du`aa’’ for those human beings afflicted there even if those people include Muslims and non-Muslims? Answer: In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger. Thank you. There is no harm or prohibition to pray for those people who lost their lives in that natural disaster. However, your beloved Muslim brothers and sisters deserve more and more of prayers and du’a’. They deserve your moral and financial assistances. You should share their sorrow and difficult time and do invoke Allah to accept them among the Shuhada’’ or martyrs on the day of Judgment. ... Name: Hakim Question: Can we give those afflicted people a portion of our zakah money even if they are non-Muslims? How about giving them charity? Answer: In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger. Thank you. The receivers of Zakah money are clearly mentioned in the Qur’an. Among them, the poor and needy people. Looking at the situation of those people who are afflicted, one can conclude that the Muslims among them fall under the category of needy people. In this regard, those Muslims deserve to receive a portion of Zakah. As for non-Muslims, they might deserve donation or any other form of assistance but not Zakah. Thus, Zakah should be given to poor and needy Muslims. Some non-Muslims may receive a portion of Zakah if there is hope that by giving them Zakah that might lead to their conversion into Islam. They would be then considered under the category of mu’’allafati qulubuhun or those whose hearts are inclined to accept Islam. From http://www.soundvision.com/Info/socialservice/misperceptions.asp : Misperception #9: Can Zakat be used for non-Muslims? Many Muslims, including some leaders, are unclear as to whether Zakat and non-Zakat charity are to be used only to help other Muslims or to help anyone who is in need. The Islamic position to assist all in need without discrimination is so obvious that it does not require any Fatwa. The Quran even challenges those who were opposing Islam at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to come forward with charity towards the needy. In Khalifa Omar's declared and implementedinterpretation of the Quranic category of Zakat distribution, Faqir meant the poor of the Muslims, and Miskeen meant the poor of Christians and Jews. Later on, as Islam encountered other faith groups, he extended social benefits to them as well. May Allah be pleased with him. However, at this age of decay in Islamic life somehow the concept of serving one's own has restrained some Muslims from using Zakat to serve all of humanity. Misperception #6: Islam is the fastest growing religion in the USA I don't know who came up with this phrase. I have not seen any research paper about it. However, what I have seen is its obnoxious usage by the unwise. In fact, 70 percent of converts leave Islam within a few years as documented by Prof. Ilyas Ba Younus. Muslims are unaware that a majority of new Muslims end up leaving Islam because of a lack of support system in the Muslim community. Their study of Islam through books does not match the reality of our brotherhood and sisterhood. Not all, however, leave because of the absence of the support system. It is a complex phenomena with many other variables.
I havent been able to post here for a while but this is clearly not true "Judging that one group of people is better than another is a sin in nearly all religions. Perhaps both of you should consider that" this may be what you would like to be true but sadly it isnt the truth
I respond: Again, the topic of this thread is "Can someone give me the name of one muslum charity that helps people in need who aren't muslums?" I have responded to the question with Koranic scripture and with opinions of Muslim clerics as well as with a list of Islamic charities in which not a single one states that it extends charitable works to non-Muslims. Besides pointing out Muslim sacred scriptures that dictate violence against non-Believers, I have also pointed out in other threads the mistranslations and consequent misinterpretation of Judeo-Christian scriptures that have been the cause of the often violent violation of human rights based on the ignorance of ancient Hebrew and Christian cultures. Conversion by military conquest and other means of force on non-Christians is not part of any present day Christian state or Christian religious organization. However, it is a documented fact that Muslims are enslaving non-Muslims in the Sudan and non-Islamic religions are prohibited in Saudi Arabia. I have attached links to my internet sources of information for anyone to access for themselves. Those are the facts.
