I have an incredibly low self-esteem due to my weight. I really hate my body and wear a brown coat to hide it everyday, which is not good because it's getting hot out. I lost 40 lbs last year, now I've gained it back. Any tips on how to lose the weight and keep it off? I can't bear to keep living like this...it's like I'm addicted to food!!! Help!!!
I actually just lost 20 pounds. Through exercise, lifting and eating the right things. If you dont like to excercise. Heres a few things you can do to lose wieght. Drink warter instead of juice or anything thats has suger in it. The calories add up quick from all those sugar drinks. Even if its 100% juice they still add suger, and suger turns into fat. Also you can start to eat good carbs instead of bad, like instead of white bread for sandwhichs eat whole wheat bread. Try and stay away from pasta to. You dont have to cut out everything thats good if you want to cheat once in awhile thats cool. becuase if you dont you'll bing out one day, so just do it on moderation. Thats the key to keeping off the wieght. Eat good most of the time, but cheat once in a while. Remeber every 3500 calories you take in equals one pounds. So say you just keep eating crap for 2 days and those calories add up to 3500 from all the food you ate for those 2 days thats a pound you gianed. I mean you could eat crap all the time and then burn it off, but thats not healthy. So just burn more calories than you take in, its that simple. Thats why excerise is good to lose wieght. Also dont eat 3 hours b4 you go to bed, anything you eat even if its a vegtable wil turn into fat. Hope i helped. if you have any questions just ask, i'd love to help. O and cheer up.
Thank you for the help, and I know what you mean about cheating. Last year when I lost all of that weight I was super strict on myself and never cheated ( I ate a pretzel once and almost started crying! ) So yeah, I definately started binging really really bad and I still can't stop!! I binge like everyday..Thanks for the advice though, I am going to start working out and drinking a ton of water.
here is a link to the mens health forum for weight loss..there are a few girls on there too..its a great group of people who will help you with your questions.. http://forums.menshealth.com/thread.jspa?threadID=156613&tstart=15 here's something on how much you should eat..here is the formula for women.. http://www.weight-loss-i.com/calorie-needs-harris-benedict.htm Harris Benedict Formula for Women - STEP 1 BMR = 655 + (9.6 X weight in kilos) + (1.8 X height in cm) - (4.7 X age in years). Notes: 1 inch = 2.54 cm. 1 kilogram = 2.2 lbs. Example of BMR You are 32 years old You are 5 feet 4 inches tall (162.5 cm) Your weight is 185 pounds (84 kilos) Your BMR is 655 + (806) + (291) - (150) = 1602 calories Harris Benedict Formula for Women - STEP 2 To determine your total daily calorie needs, now multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows: If you are Sedentary - little or no exercise Calorie-Calculation = BMR X 1.2 If you are Lightly Active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) Calorie-Calculation = BMR X 1.375 If you are Moderately Active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) Calorie-Calculation = BMR X 1.55 If you are Very Active = BMR X 1.725 (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days/week) Calorie-Calculation = BMR X 1.725 If you are Extra Active (very hard daily exercise/sports & physical job or 2X day training) Calorie-Calculation = BMR X 1.9 it takes 500 calorie a day deficit to lose 1 pound a week...1000 calorie deficit a day to lose 2 pounds a week..you shouldnt try to lose anymore than that..as you'll probably lose muscle along with fat..you want to keep as much muscle as you can since it helps you burn fat faster. i highly suggest reading the first post in that thread..it has helped me. As the poster said above, drinking water helps A LOT.. I used to consume a lot of soda/juice and i lost a lot of weight just from cutting that out. You need to really want to change to lose weight. Its very hard mentally, but not too hard physically to do. I highly suggest going to a gym if you can. I know its frightening at first, but its really not bad at all. goodluck, i hope it helps you.
I think the best way to get rid of unwanted weight is to eat vegetables, fruits, lots of fibre, drink plenty of water and exercise frequently. exercise might even include doing the housework while you listen to your favourite music while you dance to it vigorously!!!! i wish you lots of luck, hopefully you'll feel healthier once you lose a bit of weight and your self-steem will definitely increase because you'll feel much more active!!
Well I walk/ran 4 miles tonight...I've just got to get this weight off again. Thanks for all the support, I'm going to let you all know when I start losing (notice I said WHEN not IF) I've just got to be able to wear normal clothes again... By the way have any of you heard of phentermine?? It's for weightloss...
I use to weigh close to 270 pounds and then I started exercising and got down to 235, now I am back up to 250. I want to get back down to 235, that is a good weight for me. It may seem big but I am a big guy with big bones. Id ont want to be skinny, when I was 235 it looked like I weighed about 180. I dont have much motivation. I just sit here in front of this computer, It would be great if I had someone to excercise with me or at least someone that is trying to lose weight and will talk to me over the net and like give each other support. All my other friends are skinny so they dont worry about it.
i have a friend with the same mindset, capricorn, and we used to jog every night together when i was still in canada. she would lose weight, then gain it all back. i think it's interesting that you say it's like you have a food addiction, because i think that for a lot of people that's exactly what it is. you're not actually hungry, but you still want food. when she starts eating healthier, she's still obsessing over the idea of food, dieting, it doesn't feel natural. i've found that the only times i gain weight are when i have nothing to do... once i was managing a building complex for four months and didn't have any days off, didn't know anyone in town, and never really did anything. after a month my weight shot up and it was totally because i was never doing anything, felt bored, and became sort of addicted to eating. as soon as i left and met up with my friends again, i was losing pounds like crazy, because i was eating smaller meals, 3 times a day, and there was no time for needless snacks because i was too preoccupied. anyhow, i wish you luck and maybe this'll help a little... peace, sophia
It's easy. DON'T MAKE EXCEPTIONS- BE A NAZI ABOUT YOUR EATING HABITS- *Eat all you want but NO- sugar of any kind (like fruitous, sucrose and such), fruit juice, honey, non-whole grain bread, white rice, white potatoes (sweet potatoes are fine). Also, no beer (the thing I miss the most). If you wanna drink now (when your 21), just stick to liquor 100 proof or more, and mix it with water or tonic. YOU CAN'T THINK OF THIS AS A DIET- IT SIMLPY HAS TO BECOME THE WAY YOU EAT WITH NO EXCEPTIONS AND SCREW ANYONE WHO GIVES YOU A HARD TIME FOR NOT JUST TRYING SOME OF THE BIRTHDAY CAKE THEY MADE FOR YOU. CAVING IN IS NOT AN OPTION ANYTIME. And don't do it for the wrong reasons. Many people loss wieght, then subconsciencely they say to themselves,"what's the point? Nobody is noticing. The guy I have a crush on still is never gonna ask me out, I'm still not gonna be pretty and popular, so what the hell, I like ice cream!" Good luck sweetie, you can do it.
Love yourself unconditionally, and repeat that sentiment as often as possible every day. You will be better able to stick to any diet once you have accepted that you are worthy of love and are forgiven for whatever you feel bad about. I had low self esteem, and "The Choice Theory" by W. Glasser, Psyc. was a book that really made a difference for me. Also, I read every book our local library had on low self esteem, and even if the only thing it did was let me know I was not alone by a long ways, it was worth the time to read them. Good luck, and allow yourself the odd indulgence, so you don't go nuts. You will be less likely to binge if you treat yourself with a reward occasionally. If you do lapse, make sure you thoroughly forgive yourself and carry on.
Excellent advice, I got in shape by finding an activity I loved, and 'tricking' myself into exercising. And the water intake is a big help. If you can drink 10 to 12 eight oz. glasses of water per day, and make sure some of that is right before mealtime, it will help you cleanse, and feel fuller too. You can do this, and it looks like many here are eager to support you, so use this resource to the max. Supportive friends can make all the difference.
Thanks so much for all the support and advice everyone, I really think I can do it now...Keep up the support though, it's very needed, lol
You can do it! Phentermine can help, but it's probably not wise. It is one step below the chemical make-up of crystal meth, and highly addictive(as is meth). You don't want to do that to yourself! My advice that I did not see anyone say is to quit eating when you are full! I learned that a while back, and that is one of the best things you can do to loose weight. Over indulgence is often the cause of weight gain. Good luck! I know you can do it!
Thanks again for the advice and support. I've been walking 4 miles a day, avoiding carbs, and eating a lot less. I've already lost almost 10 lbs!!!!
i think its important, that while you lose the weight, you evaluate your thinking about food, and be a strong person about it. you eventually want to eat only for physical sustinance when you need it. not when youre bored, sad, or see something that tastes good. food is very precious and sometimes its hard to see how wasteful we can be with it. just because its out there, or some people eat alot, dosent mean that you or I should eat too much. send me a pm if you want to more about healthy eating and the way the body processes food.
Well, it's good if you can eat whole wheat bread when everyone else is having birthday cake, but... There was recently a book published called The French Connection, pointing out that French womyn eat these decadent things, enjoy them, and rarely get overweight. Chocolate, white bread, you name it. Don't keep a bunch of fatty foods in your house, but if you ate a candy bar every week for the rest of your life, you would be no worse for the wear if your lifestyle was otherwise healthy. Do exercises you like. For myself, I can't force myself four or more times a week to exercise if I hate it. This also means you have to try everything before you find something you like. For me, this means a combination of walking/jogging, yoga, hiking, and weight lifting. I love swimming in the summer. I RARELY do the same routine everyday. You exercise and eat right so you CAN enjoy the occassional ice cream cone without worrying. Feeling great is dandy, but we're inclined to enjoy great-tasting dishes. Just control portions.
