Their lyrics are quite poetic, if only they were not satanic.

They're not satanic, it's all for show. I think they're ok, they have some cool videos.

I like Cradle of filth. I really love the lyrics coz they are so poetic and very gothic. The video for Nymphetamine is amazing coz it fits in with the song beautifully and i love it - and it had the ever amazing Liv Kristine from Theatre of Tagedy/ leaves' eyes in it!

    Peace and love

That must have been From the cradle to enslave. Can't blame ya, freaked the hell out of me first (well, and second, and, um, third...) time I saw it. :D

Well, technically Cradle of Filth aren't black metal anymore. They use a lot of traditional heavy metal riffage nowadays, though they certainly originated from symphonic black metal. I think their best album by far is Dusk and her embrace, their second full-length. Still largely black metal orientated with great melodies, varied songs and the whole album's just dripping with atmosphere. An amazing album.

I have to admit I loooove Dani's vocals, quite unique and rather fitting.

Overall I agree with Vulva Queen, but Dusk and her embrace is quite a masterpiece in my opinion.

I dig them all the way, dusk and her embrace is an awesome album, I personally like Midian a bit better though.

I LOVE Cradle Of Filth's earlier Gothic Romance music.
Now that they've changed their style to go more 'mainstreem' than before, I don't really dig it.

First song I EVER heard by them that got me hooked (and to today my favorite - not one other like it):

    Suicide And Other Comforts

    I pace, alone
In a place for the dead
    Overcome by woe
    And here, I've grown
    So fond of dread
    That I swear it's heaven

    Oh sweet Mary,
    Dressed in grief
    Roll back the stone

With these words scrawled in a severed hand
Tears fall like shards of glass that band
    In rivers, like sinners
Swept with me to join the damned

    A darkened sky
    The day that laughter died
    Fell swiftly into night
    And stayed within Her sight
    Staring at the knife
Oh God, how easy now to sacrifice
My life, to have Her with me

    So farewell to distant thunder
Those inept stars I've worshipped under
    Fall father, their Father
Lies in wait in flames below
Whilst my love, a blood red flower
Calls to me from verdant bowers
    Graveside, I cry
Please save me from this Hell I know

    A darkened sky
    The day that laughter died
    Fell swiftly into night
    And stayed within Her sight
    Staring at the knife
Oh God, how easy now to sacrifice
My life, to have Her with me

An eye for an eye as espied in the bible
My faith is lost to the burning of idols
One less cross to press upon the survival
    Of this lorded agony

And I, (much as I have tried
    To bury Her from mind,
Fate's tourniquet was tied, when She died...)
Still sense Her presence so divine
    Lithe arms about my throat
    Like pining swans entwined
Footfalls at nightfall close to mine

Suicide is a tried and tested formula for release

I snatch Her whisper like the wind through cedars
See Her face in every natural feature
Midst the mist and sleepy hollows of fever...
    With glee deceiving me

Suicide is a tried and tested formula for release

I hear Her voice from where the grave defies Her
Sirensong to sing along, no finer
Suicide notes, harmonised in a minor
    Strike a chord with misery

    No light nor reef
No unsinkable of romance keeps me
    Safely from the stormy seas
    Now drowning, resounding
    Death-knells pound my dreams
    Unthinkable to dredge through this
    Listless and lonely winter frieze

    A darkened sky
    This day hereafter dies
    Falls swiftly into night
    And stays within my sight
    Staring at the knife
Oh God, how ease it was to sacrifice
My life, to have Her with me

No more a victim of crusade
Where souls are strung from moral palisades
I slit my wrists and quickly slip away...
I journey now on jewellwd sands
    Beneath a moon to Summerlands
To grace Her lips with contraband
The blaze once in my veins

Hmm, I don't know why, but Midian is probably my least favourite album. I can't really describe why. The music sort of lost its flow, which was already a bit the case with Cruelty and the beast. I also don't really like their debut much. I can't explain why. It's more or less pure black metal, but it just doesn't sound "right" to me. Not to mention they look absolutely NOT grim, something British black metal bands always seem to have trouble with.

I haven't listened to their newer material a lot, heard some songs come by occasionally but never really "listened", it sounds more agressive than Midian (blastbeats are back) but it can't seem to recapture that genuine dark ambiance they seem to have lost since Midian.

I do love their lyrics. Quasi-evil, very sexual and quite tongue in cheek, while always preserving a sense of mysticism. British bands always seem to focus on sex more lyrically. Horny bastards. :p

Not a big fan of the metal genre. It's demonic vibe affects my emotion in a somewhat NEGATIVE way.
