sorry if this has been asked elsewhere in the forums...please forgive me if it has...i'm planning on dreading my hair soon and wanted to know how may of you used wax. just a little curious.....from what i have read in the forums and elsewhere it sounds like more people prefer dreads without wax. looking for both the benefits of wax as well as the horror stories.

Well the only befeit i know to wax is it stops them looking frizzy.

I know many many down sides. and if you looked in the thread that tells you whats bad for your dreads you will find MANY comments on wax :) some of them horrorstories some of them just common knowledge

I can say first hand not to use wax. Wax only slowed down my dreading process. Sure they looked neater, but the fact was they werent dreading much at all. And it took a few months of scolding hot showers and ringing em out to get the wax out!

But if you are not planning on keepin the dreads for long, and dont want to wait. I would say wax is the way to go.

Hate to say it but its not out... it just seeped in more... When I combed out my dreadlocks after 8 months I found a TON of waxy hair... Actually, a freezer bag full(I just balled it all together and threw it in) and thats not including what seemed to have been what would have fallen out(if it wasn't waxy it wasn't in the bag). I'm glad someone made this thread, I was going to about why not to. This picture is a bag full of WAXY hair... Not just normal hair but waxy... I'm lucky I had thick hair because clumps of dirty, nasty, probably rotting wax pulled out CLUMPS of my hair. The benfits in the long run for me were outweighed big time. My new set will NOT have wax. Sorry if anyone finds this(hair bag) strange and gross, lol.

NOOOOO wax!!!! please... I have one or 2 places on a few of my dreads where i think there maybe a little bit of wax left over.. I never used large amounts always thin little moisturizing bits but its is disgusting… never use wax…… I only did for the first month..

Ummm there is defiantly some debate over the wax.. but more of us just telling no one to use it cause its horrible. Plus we love every one and wouldn’t want to see any one put that waxy goop int your beautiful hair:p

    hehe hair bag..

I used wax for the first month or so then I learned about how horrible it is and stopped using it. Now my dreads are forming much faster. Everytime I wash my hair tiny clumps of wax come out and get stuck in the base of my dreads. Soo gross.
