We all know suburbs suck. They are among the worst things to have happened to North America, and are spreading around the world. They are communities based on paranoia, conformity and coldness. Young parents imprison themselves and their children inside their houses, and organized community events. Malls, soccer, SUV's... How can one be happy with a life like this? But... Why must it be like this, really? What is a suburb? It's just a bunch of houses built in a specific pattern outside of the city. There are large lawns, lots of space, parks, little traffic, no crowds... This should be the ideal environment. The problem is not with the setup itself, but with the people who live there. Each house is like a little prison. It has to look exactly like the others, and has to be private. Nobody comes in, nobody goes out. What if people started having more home businesses, selling stuff in the streets and out of their house, painting graffiti on their houses, allowing nomads to set tents on the lawns, or planting nice gardens in them for the public to walk in and have some fun? What if people started hanging out in the streets a bit more, bring out their instruments and play in the streets, have art shows... Turn the suburbs into living communities of humans rather than drones. How hard is it to do? Don't these people want to be liberated? The thing they complain about most is boredom! Damn, I know it's not possible and will never happen, I just like to dream about it when walking around the suburbs. You gotta dream about something.
What's wrong with suburbs? The houses all only looks the same in the shitty ones, custom houses are teh awesomeness.
I will move, but I'm not worried about myself but about other people. Besides, my house isn't even exactly in a suburb. It's a semi-suburb kind of thing: And what's wrong with suburbs is not the architecture, but the community.
It all varies though, the place I used to live I suppose could be called a suburb, though it was actually it's own city, but the community was pretty nice overall, really care free and lots of partying and such. And it was all awesome custom houses and such.
Thats good.. Are you having a go at the stereotypical 'suburban' way of life or from experince .. all i can see is that your bored. Kids from the suburbs over here generaly hang around city centres.. have you tried that ?... yes i am being stupid.
The suburbs suck pretty much. We have them in Ireland. All the houses are identical and shoved right on top of each other. Luckily I live in the middle of fields and trees so I don't experience it every hour of the day. But my band practices in the suburbs and we always gotta finish practicing at 10.30pm because of noise.
oh i see.. it was getting a bit late ..i apologise for getting mixed up with your point.. anyhoo, i can't knock the suburbs because all the things you say would enliven them.. we have in my city.. What if people started having more home businesses---Drug dealers selling stuff in the streets and out of their house-- horrible nasty vendors selling crap painting graffiti on their houses--Urban decay allowing nomads to set tents on the lawns-- Gypsies/travelers or planting nice gardens in them for the public to walk in and have some fun---Pub gardens there are also fights in them as well. What if people started hanging out in the streets a bit more, bring out their instruments and play in the streets, have art shows... ?? thats a positive thing i can't fault that one, but it can't be carnival everyday of the week. There is a point to the suburbs and for all the faults, living in a relatively crime less area . Having a nice (if somewhat boring) etc is a good thing. If you had all the 'excitement and diversity city provides something else (not sure what)would be lost for ever. Turn the suburbs into living communities of humans rather than drones.
Lots of people who reside n the suburbs came out from the city. The burbs gives tham more of a sense of control over thier lives and famlies. It is really all about controll, and peace of mind. These migrants, many of them return to the city each day to work, so they are not ingorant about the pros & cons of city living. Please listen to the song: Theme from an Imaginary Western by the group Mountain. Guitarist Leslie West is a New Jersey boy. the theme is about living west of The City. (NY) in jersey and is a comuters tale. Excellent tune! If your particular suburb has trains and buses which go to the city, then you are all set and like the parents can enjoy best of both worlds. Best regards
What sucks the worst about them are the high schools, take my word for it I also prefer mixed business and housing, not endless fields filled with similar houses stretching into the horizon.
