Ok so im trying to make my first pillowcase apron top. I just wanna know how do ya make the boob part.... i want there to be like a line underneath the boob area so it defines the top part from the flowy part..if that makes sense... cuz now im confused. Do i just sew a line? Or do i make it like a drawstring type of deal... help!
boob part=bodice, flowy part=flowy part. i dont actually know how to help you, but i thought i'd participate
well, what I would do is make it 2 pieces. Cut a piece long enough to go all the way down your boobs ( I ussually do 7 inches) and then stitch it back on. Of course, if you don't want to cut it, you could mesure long enough to cover your boobs, fold a little bit under that, like 1/2 an inch, and then sew that together. I bet that would work better infact. Does that make sense? If you want to make it super defined, you could figure out where the middle of each breast would be in the bodice, and make a little fold there, and stich it up that way, that would give you darts and make it way more supportive, not to mention flattering. good luck! Post pics when you finish!
ahhhh! i get it!!!! Im going to try the folding method.. i have 3 pillowcases so i guess i can experiment huh. The darts thing... eh.. im not sure if i could really do that that well... but i do have 3 pillowcases and i gotta start somewhere! thank you soooo much.
no worries! if you have 3 pillowcases, then I say for sure experiment, that's how I learned to sew, that and taking apart clothes I already had, lol. Darts are pretty simple really, and they're so great for support, especially in apron tops, cause you really don't want to have to wear a bra in them. happy stichin, good luck!!!
yeah...what about a strapless bra? hmm... maybe i could sew in some bra cups or somethin.. cuz i really need the support.. so for the darts you just fold a lil crease and sew up that edge?
can you explain the whole pillowcase aporn top thing.... I've never heard of such a thing and I want to try it, I have pillowcases galore.
I have "support needs" too. I would recomend the folding method paix talked about. If you have any of those tank tops that have the "shelf bra"s in them, check and see how they are put together... and then don't do what they did, but keep the same "shelf" idea. If you make the fold-back big enough to form a shelf, then you are set... also remember that the girls will be a little reined in by the staps criss-crossing in the back, so you might not need as much support as usual.. You can do darts, which will help keep the girls from going pancake on you. They are quite simple to do if you just think of them as "pleats" and don't stress about it. Make them by folding the fabric back on itself like we talked about for the support-aspect, but on a much smaller scale. Look at something with "pleats" for help if you don't get what I am getting at.
this might help.. but it looks a bit confusing... http://www.ehow.com/how_11303_sew-darts-clothing.html ... so dont blame me if it doesnt work, i dont know a whole lot about sewing.. im just trying to be helpful! good luck mama!
