i first started to think about writing when i was pretty young. i used to love to come up with stories about my Barbie dolls, and then act them out. Then in like 6th grade we had to write a short story as an assignment and I got an A+ on it and my teacher talked to me and told me that I was really good. So I was really into it in 6th grade, and then I kind of went into a weird fase when I just did things to try to be "popular" and now im finally out of that and really into writing again.
I have always wanted to be a writer. But like you I've often lost my way. Its kind of like an itch that you want to scratch - it either bugs you or it doesn't! I did journalism at college but it ruined things for me a bit - i find writing easier if you are not trying to stick with established 'rules' - I cirticised myself so much that i got writers block. I would love to get published but now I write for my own pleasure - I keep journals and write (bad) poetry, lol.
writing is my medium of expression. I'm not very good at expressing myself orally, so I write. I think everyone feels the need to write, but not everyone does it effectively. -alberto
I, too, did the Barbie thing and I wrote as a young teen, but a 7th grade teacher lost a bunch of my early short stories; so I stopped sharing for a long time. Writing keeps intersecting with my reality (wound up writing a column in an activist rag for two yrs cuz I wrote an open letter); and now that our bus has been 'perma-parked' for a couple of years, I've been writing like mad. I can really relate to Bandit Queen & journalism rules & regs;true inspiration can't adhere to them.-Cinnamom
I fell out of my cot as a baby, and it all went down hill from there. Nah umm used to create what I now know is fanfic from the age of about seven, still write a lot of that. Then got more into actually wanting to write in high school had a very encouraging English teacher. Chose to make a career of it around age 16, having realised I've no real talent or inclination to do anything else. At least nothing that could pay the rent.
