Guys, i am in byron bay at the moment...the atmosphere is great (Blues and Roots fest)...the beach is so beautiful, the waves a lovely turquiose....fresh air, yummy food, camping, music...but no fest for me:( cos i am here to work!
but despite working it is great....ui love it here so much.
    everything is so expensive though....

yeah... man, i've heard a lot about byron bay, everyone says to go there. i haven't been yet, but definitely while i'm in australia i'm gonna hit it. i've heard it's become quite touristy in the past few years... expensive and busy, like you said.

    peace,
    sophia

saw a goat fall off a mountain and into the ocean. very disturbing. kinda ruined the groovy (though $ indeed) byron atmosphere.

    I LOOOOOOOOVE Byron Bay !
Not only for the place and its location along the Pacific with nice beaches (some where we can be naked) but especially because of the extraordinary people we meet here and basically the nice atmosphere. We feel like at home !
    Yeaaaaaaaaaah !

was a great place about 18 yrs ago, is a tad over-rated now, the tourists changed it..

back in the day byron bay used to be the whaling town and it stunk for miles. people in the area didnt want to visit there. we used to go up there every year in december as my dad grew up in that area but now byron sucks, its so over rated and crap and it's been over run by ferals that havent washed in days, i hate it and i avoid going there when im up there at all costs. i was actually just there in late february, the beach is much nicer around New Brighton/Ocean Shores as there is no one around, it's beautiful. I also like the beach at Brunswick heads and the pub there is 10X better than the Byron pub.

heeeeeeeeeey guys i just came back from byron on thursday!! i didnt know that the blues and roots festival was on no wonder there was traffic!! now im so shitty that the john butler trio was there i just told mum and shes "haha" anyway, i thought byron was a bit slwo for me actually. everyone isnt in a rush and NO BLINKERS!! no one who lives around there use their indicaters it was so so annyoing they dont know how to use round a bouts either. i made mum drive to nimbin, now thats an eye opener H.E.M.P Bar was the best, everyone in there was so fantastric. id much rather visit nimbin than byron! beach at byron was ok, although it rained while i was there! id go again but not with my mum!! although, anyone ewho lives there or around there next time i go we should meet up!

haha yeah nimbin is a crazy little place..i have been there a fair few times....stayed on top of the hotel a couple times..now thats cool cos none of the locals are allowed up there and u get a full view of whats going on in the street....they hate it! hehe...

the hemp bar is cool..i think they have an online cam actually....
the bad thing about nimbin is the demographic..sure it used to be a cool hippy place filled with love and peace and good smoke...but there is no such thing as an utopia...and the generation coming through now are on a path of destruction without those "hippy values"...they are getting real fucked up..and most ppl who sell there are doing so to support a heroin addiction....

it is a fun place occassionaley, but alot of sad things go on ya kno...

glad to hear you been having a fab time up at byron! i grew up near that way too. i love the view of Mt Warning from the beach....Ahhh so heavenly.

And I love it when the ocean is calm and you can swim and swim and swim...

I have not been to a blues fest there but i hope you had an awesome time. That is so cool you bumped into JB too. :D you said you are working, is it a working holiday? i'll be up that way in august to visit some buddies, and to get some sun during winter, I can't wait!!

Have you been to the Channon markets? It's a really nice atmosphere when everyone stays back and has a drum and a dance togeather.

who else played the at the blues and roots fest?

    August x

the ocean was calm and perfect for swimming while i was there..was so refreshing...btw, i work for and a global animal organisation against cruelty to animals....so we do travel trips around the place...based in brissie....

i havent seen the channon markets...sounds like someth to check out thou....

blues and roots was great: others like michael franti and spearhead, george clinton and the psychadelic presidents, the wailers, beautiful girls, gomez, cake, missy higgins, (that was basically mondays line up)....but there were heaps others...u should google it!
