Steely Dan should be in there somewhere, and my personal favorite Mott the Hoople, but that's a lost cause.
grrrrr...i forget when hot rats came out...if it was in the 70's id put it in there, but may of been in the 60's (**too lazy to find cd case)
hmm off the top of my head id say your list is missing a few essentail bands (ill come up with my own list tomarrow). I would add (once again off the top of my ehad) another david boiew album, one or two more dylan albums, a talking heads album, a clash album, some queen, some YES has gotta be on there, JOhn Lennon should b on there, some more dead, maybe (dare i say it) a doors album, and i dno wat else but this is a great thread ill definatley have my own list soon.
i dont know what it is but something about syd barrett is just so great.. maybe it's the mental illness caused by drugs, maybe it's the fact that some of his family died at a young age, who knows....
It's his lyrics and his overall coolness for me :H And I thought only his dad died when he was young 14, or around that age somewhere...
i wasnt sure who it was so i just said they all died to stay covered. i think the best thing by him is possible corporal clegg. although it's hard to decide.
Lately, I've been listening to "Effervescing Elephant" over and over and over and over.... My favorite's probably "Apples and Oranges" Oh oops, it's called Barrett, not Syd....
i haven't heard much of his solo stuff. can you reccomend an album or two? i just love sorcerful of secrets there's something about that is crazily good.
Check out The Madcap Laughs and Barrett. Both are simply amazing... I think like 'em both more than PatGoD. Those are his only two official solo albums. If you really, really, really enjoy him, I highly suggest the Wouldn't You Miss Me? collection... it contains every single recording Syd ever did that was not committed to tape on his first 3 albums and the studio version of "Jugband Blues". I've yet to find all the songs tho... 17 cd's worth of stuff ... I'll find you the link for it I just found out that Syd wrote "Elephant" when he was 16
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/madcapslaughing/ When you join, they'll email you ms word documents of the tracklist and how you can get the collection... it's all free! but you have to send somebody 34 blank cdr's and they'll mail you the complete set back... i don't like the sound of that, so I'm downloading them all
You mean the Have You Got It Yet collection? Yeah, great stuff. You can download the whole collection from soulseek, it's easy. more info here: http://www.neptunepinkfloyd.co.uk/hygiy/
