Well, my dad had been acting very strangely all Spring Break, and keeps saying he needs to talk to me. And this morning I found out what he needed to talk to me about. He told me not to go to school this morning, after taking his shower, he told me to get in his car, and took me out to eat. On the way there, he pulls out a pack of Zigzags. I wasn't really worried at all, but I couldn't say anything. He said, "I was looking through your van a couples days ago looking for the jumper cables, and saw these laying out on the floor. You and I both know that these are for smokin' dope. Have you been smokin' dope?" I told him yes, and then he asked me how long, I told him for a while, but I had been smoking a lot more recently. He didn't seem surprised at all and was very calm, and it looked as though he was just going to tell me to just be careful, I was almost excited. But that never came. He talked about how he was completely straight until college. His dorm mate smoked pot and got him started on it. My dad got to the point where he smoked everyday with his roomate, and he said the pot made him stop caring. He said that is why he stopped playing sports, and why his grades had gone down. His mom never did find out, so he got to do all the drugs he wanted, until he decided he was done with them. He tried to apply all the stereotypes to me, saying that I was lazy, becoming more and more reclusive, and that it was the cause of my grades dropping. I'm a sophmore, my grades started dropping back in 8th grade. I didn't start smoking until the beginning of my sophmore year. He tried to say that is why I quit sports, I quit playing sports several years ago. I'm burnt out on sports, I played them all the time when I was a kid. My dad had me in Everything. I was usually juggling 2-3 sports at one time. He wasn't forcing this on me, but you know a kid wants to please his parents and make them proud. But we talked for a few hours and then we pulled into this really old crappy parking lot. Talked for another half an hour, and then he said we needed to do one more thing. We walked into an insurance building and he made me take a piss test to make sure I wasn't doing any other drugs. He said that I wasn't in trouble now, but if I fail another piss test that he knew a few sherriffs and police officers that would work with him. He didn't say what they would do to punish me, but it would be bad. My dad is such a dick, like say if one of the punishments was too to do 4 hours of homework or studying evert night, he would stand over me, the ENTIRE time, forcing me to do the work. And if I refused, he would continue to tack on the punishments. But what I'm getting at is, I hate how parents, teachers, school, the government, all over power us, and there isn't jack shit we can do about it...unless we work together. I wish we all wouldn't have the "Well my vote is so miniscule that I might as well not vote" type of attitude. If we could all just stop being lazy, combine forces, and fucking take over. Institute new laws and rules. Oh if we would only just get together and take over, it would be so great. We out number them by so much, it really would be easy. First we would start with schools. I guess we could burn them. No more fucking school. I know we need school, but after about 8th grade we really just starting learning shit that we will never use again in life. Once someone gets out of 8th grade, I know it would probably be too early, but they could decide their major and perfect that. And they would have a basic knowledge of everything else. We only need to know what we going to do later in life. We don't need to know how to find how much Magnesium it takes to react with Copper Bicarbonate to make Copper IV Nitrate, or how to find the volume of tetrahydron. What the hell is all of this? There are sooo many god damn rules nowadays. An example of this would be shorts being too short, the only point of that rule is to keep people from seeing your privates and keeping teenage boys from getting to horny in class. But when principles are actually taking rulers and measuring the shorts, and suspending girls if the shorts are an inch too short...thats just taking the rule way too far. And they are being taken too literally, people are forgetting the whole point of why the law was made. And laws like having to wear my seatbelt, I got a ticket for that the other day. What type of bullshit is that. Who the hell am I possibly hurting other than myself by not wearing my seatbelt. We shouldn't be fucking punished for that, it's my god damn life, I can do whatever the hell I want with it. Who are you to say what I can and can't do to MY body. Or in school, teachers get you in trouble for not paying attention or listening to music. Are they your fucking grades? Am I doing anything to you. You don't care, and if you do, you shouldn't, it's my life. I know what I'm doing. I've been smoking pot for about a year, I haven't even yet developed a cough, my grades could be better, but they aren't a result of me smoking pot. I have a 2.0, and I know that is sad considering I'm not average, but above average. I know I've become a lot more calm, and a steadier thinker after I started smoking, instead of making quick decisions, I sit back and analyze them for faults. Smoking is a great way to relax, and have fun. But I have typed a lot, and I will probably remember more stuff I wanted to say later. Please tell your views, there must be someway to get some fire under our asses to do something, rather than just let the adults make their bullshit rules, and keep pushing around. Alone we are weak, but together, we are strong.
sorry man i hate to say it but there are some things you learn with age and experience. different people learn at different ages. school topic dont mean shit in life. thats not the point of school, the point of school past a certain grade, say 8 (though i think i kept learning useful thigns till 9 or 10), is to conform students on some sort of plane to allow them to be compared for the purposes of job or further education p[urposes. if all the 16 yr olds in teh world made their own decisions and choices over their whole life, the world would be in turmoil. your dad, thats another story. your grades have slipped to a 2.0? isnt that like half way? right in the middle? we have a completely differnet system of marking over here. you do no sport, you have a 2.0, and youd rather listen to music in class than put some sort of effort into getting grades? teachers get payed for doing their job. you think theyd get payed if they could jsut go 'look i know no one in here wants to listen to me so ill just go to the staffroom and steal coffee'. you cant say your above average in this world and not have the relevant credential to show it. if you dont want to go to college, then drop out now... if you do, then you need to realise that the college dosnt have the tiem or resources to inspect every single student to see if maybe they just werent great at the syllabus they were being tought, or the teacher they had. its not righteous, but its necessary. perhaps not at the extent that it is, but its necessary all the same. dude, i just wish we were allowed to grow our hair and wear any sorta clothing we want. at my school we wear a UNIFORM. we cant grow our hair if it covers too much: our forehead, ears, collar. realise that your lucky with having no uniform in that department. im fuckin sick of kids complaining about uniforms in my school, let alone people bitchin about the restrictions on the casual clothes they can wear. and no im not some sissy who never gets in trouble, i have detention practically every friday and at some points got the most punishments in my year. my grades have slipped a bit and they started slipping before i smoked weed but that doesnt mean weed has no effect on how well i could be improving, now that its my final year. we need to overcome our current govt, and your dads a prick, but all the stuff about school is just something you need to realise! and end the angst! laws arent really meant for justice, theyre meant for conformity. this comes hand in hand with social moral and ethical codes often, but thats not the focus of them.
Well... I don't know what to say, I've been out of high school for 2 years and I have felt the same way about high school. In many other countries, school stops at about the 9th or 10th grade level. I am totally with you when it comes to the tyranny of high school, but you have no choice to submit, or to drop out (which is a VERY bad idea). The reason that you are going to school is tax dollars. The state and the schools gain money everyday you are in class, and if you aren't, they don't get money. It's all about money, really. STAR testing, sports, and other school 'acheivements' are for the school's monetary gain. Deny if you like, but its true. And with your whole 'revolt' bullshit... you are sixteen. You are a MINOR! YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS OF AN ADULT. PERIOD. You have to jump through your parents hoops every time you need something, or get their permission. It's also natural to rebel against your parents at your age, although I do agree that your dad is being irrational. He is using Post-Facto reasoning, which means that the effect does not match the cause, or after the fact reasoning. Just be more careful, that's all. I just don't understand how a previous smoker could totally rag on the substance. His choices were his own, and even though weed can make you have a lack of motivation, he CHOSE to not participate in sports and the like, not Mary Jane. I think your dad is back asswards.
my mom is the biggest jesus freak ever and if she found out i smoked pot i would but in a police station and rehab, my mom use the be a hippie im talking 100% hippie back in the 60's-70's she would go the three day festivels extremly free thinking, then she sent totaly insane because of a realy messed up event, she basicly put her self into her own littile world where everything is perfect and god will save her soul, he whole view on life changed. now my father went though this event with her it effected then both equaly but for some reason my father was effected differently he is still very free thinking ive told him i smoke pot and drink he realy dont care but he has given me talks about where to drawn the line no to drive if you drunk or stoned not to do coke or any of that stuff. i quess it just depends on the person some people take experences not as a way of growing but shutting them selfs off from reality and free thinking. as for the society thing i do not agree with any of it and as far as i can see this is the down fall of the world as we know it. The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man. George Bernard Shaw
The whole "revolt" thing is extreme, yeah, but every year I come back to school, there are a good 20 more rules in the rule book. In ten years, kids won't be allowed to breathe in school, because it would be too distracting. Sure we need to set morals and ethics...but we will be nazis before we know it. What the hell is the point of living when everyday everyone has to go to school or work. Be forced to stay inside and learn useless facts(not all of it of course), but like in Donnie Darko(have you seen it?), do you remember when Donnie had to draw an X on the board of what the situation was about? A kid found a wallet, which had money in it. The kid took the money and returned the wallet. The teacher wanted Donnie to put the X on graph which was broken up into 2 emotions, Love and Fear. Taking the money was supposed to be an act of fear, but taking the money had nothing to do with fear. The kid was just a greedy little bastard. But Donnie was told to put the X on the board where he thought it belonged, or would fail the assignment. All kids have mendable minds, and teachers, parents, government, force us to except ideas because they have power to. Why is depression so high nowadays? Because everyone is forced to live miserable lives, having to accept what they're told, or suffer the consequences. The more you fight, the deeper shit you get in. So you give up, give in to the system. Which discourages anyone else from getting out of line. I think hallowedbethyname is right in that it all comes down to money. We have totally forgotten about leading a better life, and just worry about money. How can we make these kids get better grades on their MAP tests, or whatever test, so we can make more money? Money, money, money! John Lennon says it pretty well in his song Imagine. Imagine there's no heaven, It's easy if you try, No hell below us, Above us only sky, Imagine all the people living for today... Imagine there's no countries, It isnt hard to do, Nothing to kill or die for, No religion too, Imagine all the people living life in peace... Imagine no possesions, I wonder if you can, No need for greed or hunger, A brotherhood of man, Imagine all the people Sharing all the world... You may say Im a dreamer, but Im not the only one, I hope some day you'll join us, And the world will live as one. Imagine we had nothing to fight about, nothing to disagree upon. Sure the world would be a lot less dramatic, but if you support things like these, then you really should be shot. Just for a little bit of fun action in your life, you are willing to destroy someone else's. Does that make you feel better, "knowing" you are right? When I say "knowing", I mean, as in you believe it's true and try to force the belief upon another. You can't possibly think every religion is the truth. Or that any of them are right. What the hell would happen if we didn't have anything to fight about, no rules to break? Sure it would be mayhem for a while, but things would settle down quickly, people would realize what they are doing is wrong. Most bad things would cease to exist. Sounds pretty good to me.
Can any one tell me what ASSUME makes...... lol anyway there will always be someone with more power that is telling you what to do, you overthrow them then you have that power. the only way for people to be equal is for like minded people to get together in small groups we call communes (even those can fail though). for the entire human race as a whole, we are too varied in ideas and opinions for a complete lack of rules to work
the problem with imagine is that it doesnt adress economy. what he speaks of is essentially communism. thats waht communism is. communism isnt that bad until people are FORCED to have no possessions and FORCED to have a brotherhood. communism in theory is the best thing but in reality, it can only be enforced by the people who are not the enforcers. the enforcers cannot be enforced because then they wouldnt be the enforcing power, another power would be. but then that power would not be enforcable. power leads to corruption and corruption leads to bad things. i just wish countries would stop trying toe xpand their boundries. thats the real killer in teh world. countries are necessary for economy and stability and some level of conformity (peaceful order is preferred but corruption goes against that generally).
wow, this thread is some crazy shit. IMO parents have the right to set rules, sure your dad is being a little extreme, but u live in his house, eat his food, so ur basically his bitch. My dad used to be the same way. I gradually showed him facts on why weed isnt that bad and he read "the emperor wears no clothes" and then he understood that jsut because he doesnt smoke weed doesnt mean i shouldnt be allowed to. Im allowed to smoke now as long as my chores are done and my grades stay up.
Whatever we do there will never be a good choice, because nobodys choice is right. I hate it when people think just cuz they do it its right. I understand what you mean bout rules in schools, the principle in my school expells kids for fighting and 'smelling like the reefer'. pisses me off. I really dont like school, but I gotta go anyways, because if I dont Im breaking this imaginary law which states I have to go to school, the thing that used to be considered only for rich people who had alot of money. The world is a shitty place to live in, but we have to accept it because theres no other place to live, and if there was, america would be at war with it...
