my brother's girlfriend goes barefoot CONSTANTLY.. she never has shoes on... a couple of days ago we were sitting on her bed and she had her legs crossed and i ask whats that big gold dot on her heel?? she says "oh its prolly a drop of paint or something" (shes a painter/artist/whatever) she lifts up her foot and realizes its a tack!! the tack had been in her foot for 4 days from when she hung up a bunch of tapestries and stuff in her kids' rooms without her noticing! because she NEVER wears shoes, her feet are sooooooo tough, im jealous!! anyone else have any funny stories like this?
That's a pretty crazy story. The only thing I've ever stepped on was a large peice of glass. I was walking downtown with my friends and I stepped on the glass. I kept on walking and was making jokes about if we got lost we could just follow the blood trail back. It was insane but then again I'm not all here.
Ha. Reminds me of when I was 10. My sister and I had our friends over for three days and Brodie and I set up or fortress. This included drawing pins on the floor to keep the girls away and as it eventuated, we were the ones who kept standing on the pins. My sister and her friend never came near us!
That's nasty, but at the same time I kinda find it hard to believe. A thumbtack stuck into the sole of a foot -- and unnoticed for FOUR DAYS? Come on. Who could not only not feel a tack in her flesh but also not even look at her own foot for four days? ESPECIALLY a barefooter who is constantly without shoes on? I'm sorry, if you have so much callus on your soles that the 1/4" spike of a tack cannot be felt, that's an unhealthy foot. That much callus would probably not be flexible, and would be subject to painful cracking... I think this story is embellished a bit. -Jeffrey
Yeah, what they said.. while I like tough foot stories this one sounds a bit over the top... first of all a foot never turns into a 'hoof', callouses do get thicker but after a certain point they mostly get tougher, like leather, and a tack would be too long to get fully inserted without discomfort... Also most barefooters (and most other people ) do take care of their feet at some point in a four day period... Hey, I skip a shower sometimes when I'm at home and don't have to meet anyone, but four days, and then when someone's coming over? Only thing that could be is if she has diabetes or for any other reason doesn't have full sensation of her feet, in which case she should really check her feet every day!
My feet are super tough, but I don't know if I wouldn't have noticed a tack in my foot for days on end. It might not hurt at first, but after a while, I would be bound to take notice. Today I had my first stubbed toe of the spring season. It ripped the polish right off, as well as the skin. It did smart a bit, but not too bad. It certainly doesn't affect my love of being barefoot.
I've heard this story before. Methinks someone is spreading around an urban legend, using themselves as a subject.
I'm going to vouch for Peace. Her friend may have been bullshitting that it was in there for four days, or maybe she only stepped on it a few minutes before, but Peace isn't a liar.
Thank you. Hey, I noticed something... I started in calling someone out for a b.s. story, and then suddenly everyone is like, "Oh, yeah, I don't believe you either..." It's kinda like I'm a trendsetter now... LOL! Come on, guys, get your own schtick! -Jeffrey
That sounds more believable, it may've been laying real close... I've had 'cling-ons' (or Klingons -stuff stuck to my soles for a little bit) myself. I hope that is the case, for I'd worry a bit if she had it in there for four days... while tough feet are great, our sense of pain is also a form of protection, to alarm us when something is wrong. It's great not to feel every pebble anymore, but if we get an entire tack, or any other larger object in our soles, it's important we find it and can pick it out before it can give us any serious trouble. That is why people with diabetes are usually discouraged from going barefoot; not only does an injury take longer to heal but undiscovered injuries that wouldn't be a big deal if treated soon can get badly infected. Even if they don't hurt, I am always aware of any reasonably-sized 'Klingon' that stays with me for more than a few steps, and flick or pick them off so they can't become a bother or possibly penetrate deeper or anything.
alright alright, i asked her about it.. dont fret... she has MS, and her medication makes her body outta wack. she couldnt feel anything on her feet because the medication was making her body outta sync. still, pretty crazy, huh?
Then I'd really advise her to do a visual check at least once a day! Feet are tough, and our bodies can stand a lot more than some (most ) people think, but we aren't invulnerable... an unnoticed cut can get nasty
