hi i am trying to branch out and try some new genres of music, and i was wondering what you all thought were the best albums you've ever heard of:

    *acid rock
    *acid jazz
    *world music

and, for good measure, what are the best rock records you've ever heard?

thanks everyone. i'm way behind on my musical education :)

Well, I don't know if it's pure acid rock, but the name fits the music, check out this albums:

Liquid sound company - Exploring the psychedelic
Colour Haze - Los sounds de krauts

Both bands are very inspired by the seventies acid, kraut and space rock and the best thing is that these 2 fabulous bands are making their tripping music in this time. I also would like to recommend some albums of Hawkwind when it comes to acid/space rock. Check out their album Warrior on the edge of time, it's one of my favourites.

as far as "world music" goes, check out Radio Tarifa...they are from Spain but combine lots of middle- eastern instruments with Flamenco...really good moody stuff

Yeah, acid rock is another name for psychedelic rock. "World music" is a misnomer, since there's no single "music of the world"-- try specific countries/regions/cultures instead. My favorite world musics are Sundanese gamelan, Haitian vodou drumming, North Indian raga, and Tuvan & Tibetan overtone singing. If you want world fusion, try Don Cherry (as Relayer suggests), Art Ensemble of Chicago, Oregon, Codona (Don Cherry, Colin Walcott & Nana Vasconcelos), or any of Mickey Hart's solo albums. Hmm yeah, Dead Can Dance, forgot about them...

I've tried ALL Genre's from Old School COUNTRY, to FOLK, all the way to Rap.
I can only give you THIS advice. Stay AWAY from the "Top Ten" lists.
Get the REAL feel for an artist. Not the public one.
