My son just turned 16 and has been playing the guitar since he was 3, so it was only fitting that my husband and I took him to the Eric Clapton Crossroads Concert. It started out with Neal Shon and Stevie Vai who is one of my sons favorites. It also had Jimmy Vaughn, John Mayer, Bo Diddley,Larry Carlton and others. At one time Eric Clapton was onstage with B.B. King, Jimmy Vaughn, Buddy Guy, and John Mayer. Carlos Santana was there, as was Joe Walsh and James Taylor. Eric Clapton played some by himself and was then joined onstage by Jeff Beck, the concert ended with ZZ Top. Needless to say I may have ruined all other concerts for him. The best time I had was watching my son's face when his favorites came out to play. It was awesome.
Damn, that sounds like one hell of a concert! If you don't mind me asking, how much were the tickets to the show? I'd think they're pretty expensive with all of those legends there. Sounds like a great first concert! But ya, you might have ruined the rest for him!
They were $60.00 a piece, which wasn't bad considering the concert was 11 1/2 hours of non stop music. They sold the tickets just the opposite of other concerts though. The first block sold was for standing room only, after they were sold they started selling reserve tickets. We bought ours about 3 weeks before the concert and had great seats, considering it was at the Cotton Bowl.
I remember you posting in the old forums saying you were going and your son played guitar. I bet he's really inspired now.
16 and a first concert? geezzzzzz. My son's first requested concert was in 2000, so he was 9, and it was Bob Dylan and Phil Lesh and Friends. We had just returned from High Sierra music festival the day before. his first ever concert was the Red Dirt Rangers at the Blue Door in OKC. he also counts SCI, Yonder Mountain, Arlo Guthrie (my son is also an Arlo), Pete Seeger, and a bunch of others.
ohhhhhhhhhhhh. gotcha. wow---there's a thought... my kid is ALMOST old enough to go to shows solo...eeeeep! only one you could stand? ;P
No, not the only one I could stand. Usually we're backstage so the atmosphere is way different than sitting down at a concert.I was able to sit next to him and see his reaction as opposed to him wandering around backstage without his mom tagging along. It was a great concert though
LOL. the Dylan show was Arlo's first time to not be backstage, too. He asked why we weren't going back and I had to explain we didn't work with Dylan and Phil had packed and gone. My spouse and I run a studio that makes backdrops. what's your connection?
