My nephew asked me to help start the engine of his model aeroplane. It appeared to have a carby but no spark plug. The choke was done by touching a part of it was done with a heated rod.I could not decide what kind of an engine it was.Anybody have any ideas or experience?

I realize this is really crude but this does sound like the ideal girl-friend ...

That kind of engine works like a diesel. The compression on the upstroke generates enough heat to combust the next downstroke. You need the electric heater to get things started, just like a glow plug on a diesel. I think you can run those things on vegetable oil mixed with a little methanol. Good starting point for a veggie powered skateboard.
