    yes hip hop is the new rock and roll and fucking puff daddy is the new rod stewart (not offence to rod fans)
    No doubt there is alot of shit out there, you always have to dig to find the good stuff, under all that shit there's a few pearls.

    Hmmm, where is it written that english people should listen to only english, music by english people. Come to think of it you might find it written on the NF website, joking aside, i think that is there position. Culture and race/"ethnicity"/nationality are different things surely?

    Hi to TheFly,
    to quote the blackbirds;
    ..."if you're meek and shy but want to be hip and fly"...
    try listening to some of the following;
    Jamie liddel, Kid Acne, infesticons, the plannets(i dunno if they have a deal, london muslim hiphop) and New Flesh, all new Uk rap, it's good! Pit Man and Fifty Pence are 2 uk rappers who rip the piss out of all that american, gangsta bullshit, its funny.
    As for american stuff my current faves are Edan, Tes, Dangermouse, MF Doom(aka madvillan)
    Give it a go fly, anyhow what's your fave tunes these days?
    After extoling the virtues of an openminded approach to music, i must admit that i am allergic to most forms of Rave. I have to run to avoid anaphalatic shock.
    Maybe one of you guras know some good dance music that can break the curse?
    peace X

    Okay... thanks for the names... mate is doing me a copy of the Dangermouse lp...

    Can't help you much on the dance music front... I went through my cheesy quaver phase at the height of acieeeed in the late 80s/early 90s... never had my heart in it though... always been to much of an effete indie art rock dude...

    Liking The Bravery at the moment... very interesting to listen to a group that seems to breath early 80s influences... also still listening to Kasabian, Doves, The Killers, Bloc Party, The Futureheads, Kaiser Chiefs... fuck me, I sound like an edition of the fucking NME... looking forward to the new lp by British Sea Power.... saw them at Eden a couple of years back and they were very special...

    Yeah... if you want to know indie art rock, I'm your man...

    Fly...

    Hiya! Yeah the NME sucks so bad, it's full of all the stuff you hear on radio 1 every day, knowaddamean? They should be telling us about undiscovered stuff instead, and they usually have about 3 column inches to cover music by black people.
    Anyone heard of 'Edan'? He is touring, ithink. Anyway he's playing manchester on sat 16. Isaw him twice, and i must say he's the jimi hendrix of rap, i never saw any thing like it, i hear his new record crosses into rock, and he's not full of shit, so if you get the chance, see him, he's a genius. You won't regret it, xx even hiphop haters. x

    You know... I love Beck... he fuses roots, blues, rock, folk, hiphop and so much more into one amazing sound... no boundaries.

    I hate boundaries in anything... especially music.

    Rhythm and Blues was kind of a "lead up" to rock 'n' roll. In fact, if I remember correctly, rock 'n' roll was the named used by a DJ on a white radio station in 50s America so that older people wouldn't relaise it was black music (damn segregation). The origin of the phrase "rock and roll"? Slang term for having sex.

    I have no idea how "rhythm and blues" became synonymous with the music we hear classed as "r 'n' b" nowadays. I'd love to know, though.

    For original rhythm and blues, try some Chuck Berry. In fact, I'm gonna go listen to some Chuck Berry now.
