Isn't the first commandment about how you "shall not put any other God's before me" so isn't that suggesting that is more than one god, and doesn't that go against christianity, becuase don't they tell you that there is only one. so does their first commandement conradict their entire religion?
I never thought about it. I searched the online Bibles and I couldn't find where it said there was only one God. Other Gods are mentioned in the Bible.. Sometimes we shouldn't listen to "Them".. "They" don't always tell the truth.. I read my Bible (flawed as it is) and pray that God leads me right.. Worshipping other Gods won't get you to Heaven.. Now the "One" thingy that's in the Bible is God is our creator. Nobody else did that.. I feel these other Gods and possibly the Mythology stories came from the race that born from when the angels found women attractive and bred with them.. God didn't allow that race to reproduce..
the current teachings suggest that there is only one god; yet at the time the ten commandments were written it was not necessarily like this. the ANCIENT hebrews were supposed to worship and devote themselves to their god, and to not put other gods before him, because he is the supreme god, the creator of the earth. but that's not to say they didn't believe other supernatural beings could or did exist (take angels for example - essentially lesser gods in nature, comparable to greek gods subordinate to zeus) and in fact idolatry and angel worship and so on tended to be a "problem" among the earlier jews and christians strayed from the path they were told to follow. today, however, it is more often interpreted to be a warning against adopting other cultures' gods, either in addition to or instead of the god christians, jews, and muslims worship.
"Let us make man in our image" God (dog) be in basic, God (dog) be in specific, and God (dog) be in general. Dog because God is the devil.
back then all the nations ecxpet for Israle worshied a lot of gods that view point were fake. The first comandment means dont serve all those other fake gods and to also serve the real god.
Every one else surrounding Isrel were worshing the God know as "Bail" at the time.Afraid to say that its hard not to conform.
"Our" can alos be interpreted as like the way a royal will speak...see Hamlet when Claudius is speaking at the gala after King Hamlet dies...he talks of "Our" brother, and "Our" thrown...but he really means "My" brother and "My" throne...also i thik he refers to "our" wife in reference to Gerturde
Or Molech, or Ashtoreth, etc. But still, if someone demands me to be their friend, I am immediately on the defensive. I automatically suspect something is up. If he is so great, his good qualities should be enough. I don't go around demanding others like me.
Still all the surrounding religons had one very powerful offer....free sex....really thats hard to resist....
I guess, if you can't find some on your own. Something about being commanded to worship him just doesn't sit right with me. It makes me think, "Oh yeah? ANd so what if I don't? Make me!" I never do something strictly because I am told to, I need more than that. And in the area of relationships, the moment I am ordered to 'like' someone, I immediately do not.
