I had a discussion with my Step-mom about what she would like the baby to call her when it arrives. She liked Nana, but my mom is already Nana to her other grandbabies. So Nana and Pop Pop are already taken. Steve's parents are going to be Baba and Deda, since they are Czech. Gram, Granny and the like are out cuz' they make her feel old. What can we call her? Peace' Jazz
Well, my dd calls her step-grandmother Gramma Gayle. And her stepgrandfather Pa Dean. So maybe Gramma (her first name)?
I called my late step-grandmother Yiayia... but she was Greek. My other grandmothers are Grammy and Nana, although I'm partial to Grammy.
Croix and Noah call my mom "ganma" or "mom-mom". Mom-mom is what I called my grandmom's,lol. I don't know if I thought it up, someone else did or my mom or grandmom's did but basically its means your mom's mom... mom mom.
my neice and nephew have bunches of grandparents and they call my mom meme... so there is meme and popy nama and papa Gramma Marie Gramma L I think thats it...
My mom and dad are Mimi and Grampy, and my husband's parents are Grammy and Pa. Not that my 11 month old son can even say any of those, but thats what we call them around him.
i always called my mom's parents grammy and grampy and they were in there 30s when i was born, and my dads parents were nanny and poppy
My mom's parents: Memaw and Papa (or Grammy and Grampa) My dad's parents: Grandma and Grandpa My sister in law calls her grandma "Oma" because that means Grandma in German, I guess.
If the other kids call her Nana, why can't yours? I'd think that would cause less confusion when they're all together. My poor kids also have a ton of grandparents, lol My mom and dad are Nana and Papa (just Papa, unless other grandparents are there, then he's Papa Paul) My husband's parents are Granny (her idea) and Papa John (he was originally just "grandpa" but Ryvre seems to consider "papa" a term of endearment, so he is a papa too) My dad's mom is Oma (kind of funny because Ryvre spontaneously called her that, and she happens to be the German one) The the other great-grandparents are "grandma/grandpa+first name" and the great-grandparents are "grandma/grandpa+last name" because that's the way the rest of us did it as little ones. My husband also has a grandmother called Nana, and a Grandma that is called "Granny Boop" because she likes Betty Boop, and one of her grandaughters thought it sounded cute. So, to date, we have in this family: Nana, Papa (Paul), Oma, Papa John, Granny, Nana Carrol, Granny Boop, Grandma Mona, Grandpa John, Grandma Miller, Grandpa Bob, Grandma Debbie, and Grandma Sollars.
How the heck did you guys end up with so many Grandparents? I just have... Grandma & Grandad Nan/Nanny Lloyd* A Grandfather (we haven't spoken since I was two) It's sweet just to let your child come up with something themselves. It doesn't matter what they call them, as long as they call them. *Lloyd is her last name, she assumes we call Grandma Nan too, and need to make the distinction. We don't of course, but just humor her.
Well...the women in my family (mother's side) never give up, lol. i have one great-grandma (so, of course, she's now a great-great) who is nearly 90, and has outlived three husbands. My mom's father and mother are divorced, and both remarried, so that gives us an extra (great-) grandma and (great-) grandpa, plus an extra (great-) great-grandma. In all, our kids have 4 grandparents, 7 great-grandparents, and 2 great-great grandmothers. 2 more (a great-grandfather and a great-great grandfather) have passed away since Ryvre was born.
I have three fathers and my mom's family is rather large...here's how it works for me: My mother's mother is Gramma. My mother's step mother is Granny Gladys. My mother's father was Papa Peery. My mother's step father was Grampa Joe. My biological father's mother is Gramma Anne. My biological father's father is Grampa Carl. My biological father's step mother is Martha. (They just got married.) My adoptive father's mother was GranEtta (her name was Loretta). My adoptive father's father was Gramps. My step-father's mother is Granny. My step-father's father was Pop.
this prolly has no relevence but my mums name is peta and when i have kids she wants to be called poita (p-oi-tar but said really fast) ^ as in the calling of someone 'oi come here'
I like Bubbe and Zaide, just because I like Jewish culture. Oma, German. Babushka, Russian (best language ever! )
I was never allowed to call my grandparents a cute name. My mom said i should learn how to address people correctly. I had to call them Grandmother Horn Grandfather Horn Grandmother Troupe Grandfather Troupe My cousin called my grandmother mo-mo and I was so jealous. If I have a child i'm going to allow them to call my parents ridiculous names
I had this discusssion about what the grandparents on each side would want to be called when my son was born. B/f's parents who were already grandparents had already 'laid claim' to grandma and grandpa so we kept trying to come up with names for my parents and finally mom said 'screw it ... i don't care.. i wanna be grandma too!'
My oldest gave the granparent's their respective names because she was the first grandchild on both sides. So when she was able to say a few words (10 months old) they got their names. My parents are Nana and Papa. My hubby's parents are Grammy and Pop Pop. Easy as pie.
