Heavy Metal: Nature's Method of Equal Opportunity for the Mentally Handicapped

Saying metal is retarded isn't so far-fetched seeing how the early bands were primarily inspired by crappy mongoloid bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin...

I've been to plenty of metal shows, and I've never seen a real fight. Moshing isn't fighting.

All Nu-"metal" bands should kill themselves through the ingestion of razors and rusty nails, washed away with corrosive agent.

This being said, I think a lot of people who don't like metal just don't explore far enough. At first encounter they are often taken back by the intensity and aggression too much to hear the amazing melodies, complicated rhythms and complex song structures. This makes them form an opinion too soon; what they "heard", sucked; so apparently, all metal must suck.

However, there is an astounding diversity among subgenres, and styles within these subgenres. Even between bands playing the same style there are substantial differences. I've been listening to metal for about six years now, and even though I reached the pinnacle of extremity long ago (as far as I know), there's still a vast part of the scene yet to uncover. Due to this variety, an opinion based on just a few bands is simply not valid.

I'm convinced that everybody who'd explore deep enough would find at least one metal band he likes. The thing is, one has to actually listen to metal to learn to appreciate it, and listening goes far beyong just hearing it. Once you can get past the "extremity" (not all bands are extreme, for example regular heavy & power metal) and you take little enough steps up the ladder of brutality you don't even have to get used to anything anymore. It'll be like a pebble rolling down a snowy mountain, and you'll learn so many new great bands you'll wonder why in the name of the Almighty Horned One P) you didn't listen to metal before.

Er, at least it went that way for me. Kind of. And I'm still a nice guy; smart, well-mannered, kind to animals, good with children, loving towards those who deserve it, and anti-violence enough to call myself a hippie and post on a site like this. ^_^

 

but the ultimate question. Do you have a mullet, a cammaro and torn band shirts?

 

IM a geek when it comes to metal..... its gotta be a good metal band with melodies and complex structures!! not just heavy riffs. Im talking tool, early metallica, pantera, iron maiden, apc, etc.

All my friends listen to new metal. Most of it is regurgitated trash. Most of what I hear sounds like someone listened to a few maiden albums and learned how to mimic the guitarist. Like unearth and those types of bands I am talking about. AC/DC isn't metal. AC/DC is just rock, very very simple rock. I put down metal all the time and everybody is always like "wow it's so complex and blah blah," when there are no dynamics whatsoever. Most of the music I listen to is all about the groove, and at the same time technically superb. So, I can totally see why people shit on metal, but I disagree with metal being nature's method of equality for mentally challenged people. I think you have confused the metal genre with punk. Punk is a bunch of 3 chord progressions, with whiney shitheads singing who all try to sound the same. You can probably thank MTV, new found glory, and satan for putting your ears through the auditory torture that is punk music today. O, and 13 year old girls.

 

I absolutely agree with your opinion of nu-metal (except for the similarities to Iron Maiden, at least Iron Maiden play decent melodies) and your classification of AC/DC. I strongly disagree with the absence of groove or dynamics in metal, but if you think so, no problem. Maybe you've been listening the wrong bands, maybe it just doesn't work for you as it does for me. We're all different, and we should be glad about it.

 

i like my metal, but dont much care for nu-metal. ICP really needs to end. the existance of that band is a bane on human existance.

 

i always thought that ICP was more just really bad rap than nu-metal.........

 

hey, i totally agree about numetal, but i think you should just leave the heavy metalers alone. It has something to it other than just sheer shouting.

 

metal is a joke and it is not here to stay, it will be gone before long. it is popular so to control the low lifes in the world like rap music. but i still listen to some rap, at least rappers can be funny when they talk about killing people.

 

ehhh i dont like metal. some black sabbath can be alright if that's what you call early metal. i dont know much of genres i just know what i like.
