    So, then.

I'm really curious to know if any of you lovely
Dutch people watch any English TV programmes,
such as comedies, dramas or shows, etc.

What sticks out in your mind as far as UK TV is
concerned. Is it all crap or do you secretly like
    one or two things.?

Actually, if any Yanks are here, what do you like
that British TV has knocked out, as well.?

BBC News! Other than Talk America Radio and Democracy Now, the BBC is about the only place we get news that doesn't just parrot the press releases from the Bush administration, Congress, or big business.

And, of course, Monty Python's Flying Circus. The best comedy troup ever!

i agree about bbc, it tells you about other parts of the world we are not currently involved with militarily.

i always liked dr. who, i've heard alot about the office but not sure if i seen it. they are making an american version. i was in london 6 years ago and there was some show about office workers and it struck me that the behavior they were engaging in would be called sexual harrasment over here. funny shit tho.

when i was a kid i watched the famous five. i also read alot of enid blighton.

of course all the literature you read in school is all from england.

It doesnt get any better than the office I tell you now, Ricky Gervais is a true comedy genius !!

I don't think the office you are getting over there is what we get here though, I think the humour is to be more 'americanized' which is a shame.

that show with mrs. bucket is funny and i liked allo allo too but not as much as mrs. bucket. they show benny hill late night over here. all these shows however are either on pbs or bbc, regular channels such as abc, cbs, nbc don't show tv shows from other countries as far as i know. they are more likely to buy the rights and create their own version, like big brother for example.

I can't stand Benny Hill personally, im sure others will have different opinions though. The Office and Little Britain are by far the best comedies I have seen in a long while. Do you get Little Britain over there ?

As for Big Brother... cringe ! Who the hell can actually put themself through watching hours of a program as dull as that, I can't honestly see one reason why anybody would want to watch it. When I say i'd rather watch paint dry, im not joking.

The only thing with the BBC is that all us Brits have to pay for it.
Everyone in the UK has to buy a TV licence, but the BBC is good
as a result, especially the Documentaries and news.

Monty Python, ah that brings back memories, although that was
some time ago I can just about remember the first screenings.

As far as the Office is concerned I really can't see how anyone
could better Ricky Gervais but I'll wait and see what the American
version is like. Ricky Gervais's dance routine is one hell of a
classic comedy moment. It's a shame you don't get the original.

Little Britain seems to be the only decent comedy screened by
the BBC at the moment and Dr Who will no doubt go worldwide.
Probably the best ever British TV show that I personally liked
was called ''The Day Today'', by Chris Morris, but I'm pretty
sure that it's only screened in the UK.

    Dutch people then.
Do you get any British stuff on your screens.?

Nemesis, can you think of any American programs that are worth watching ? I can't stand 'comedies' such as Friends, Seinfeld (sp?) etc, the humour is to obvious, then we are fed rubbish like Buffy. On the other hand though, the Simpsons and South park are always worth a chuckle !!

And one other American program I will watch but doubt anyone has heard of,

    DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER !!

Bravo at 10 every week night, this guy is such a clown but hilarious all the same. Great to laugh at whilst having a smoke.

"ya gotta stop smoking ice, bra" :)

Blimey there are so many of them.
    Simpsons is classic.
The A Team, when I was kid was
    great stuff to watch.
Can never forget Sesame Street when
    I was really small.
There are so many USA programmes to list.

We depend on the BBC for good shows haha. We do have an awful lot of English shows here, both British and American. And of course, also our normal Dutch shows. Thank God we dont dub here, that would seriously suck. Last time, i was rewinding some video, and the videochannel was the German channel. They had this old Bold & the beautiful episode, but dubbed, however, they did feel it was necessary to pronounce all the names as American as possible. Its hilarious. Dubbing should be illegal. Anyway, i watch Dutch programmes and some English too.

I like British humour better than American humor. Brits are more cynical, sarcastic, while American humor seems to be like we all run into a tree, and fall, and then we laugh. Its usually something physical and obvious. However, i must say i like Friends.

Suprisingly, the Amerian version of The Office has been pretty good to date. I don't know how well its matches up to the English version - but I find it pretty witty.

The only other US comedy I can really recommend would be Arrested Development. Other than that TV is pretty crappy these days.

Oh... that and the best news show evar: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Damn! One more - Comedy Central: Reno 911! THIS is hands down the best show on TV!!!

And we got this show about a vet and a show about an alien that married an earth woman. don't know their names, but they're pretty cool too.. And ofcourse Blackadder!! mr bean too, but I don't like that..
But most shows are american and we got a lot of australian shows too..

    All interesting stuff.

It seems at the end of the day we all share the same TV.
I know USA get a fair bit of UK TV and was very curious
what all the Dutch get as well. The BBC seems to be up
there with the TV programmes and news stuff.
Blackadder is good so was Fawlty Towers. The only UK
detective show that was based in Amsterdam was called
Vandervalk (sp) but have not seen it for many years
although it really had fantastic theme tune to it.

Cheers for all the feedback everyone. Nice one.
