I'm curious- what are the "pros and cons" of having a skoolie or a VW bus?

Hm.. pros, they're awesome. You'll meet cool people who chat you up about your bus.

    Cons.. maintance, upkeep.. you know.

A combie is like a van/truck/caravan/bus i guess.... it can seat like 12 people or can have beds and a kitch area...it varies from combie to combie.... it is a typically hippy transporter! You usually see heaps with weed leaves painted on the sides!

haha, oh yeah. Awesome! Road trips are so fun. Well, the last one I went on sucked ass because of a whiney chick (my best friends new girlfriend) tagged along and complained about everything, but normally road trips are so fun!

i had a vw for 6 years, and they are great fun. the only problem is, the old ones break down on a fairly regular basis. i neded a full time job to keep mine on the road. not very helpful if you want to travel and not work.

my advice would be to get the newest vehicle you can afford. it may not look like the hippest bus on the road, but it will get you to where you're going and you wont have to work so hard to keep it on the road.

you can still make it look hippie by painting it up all colourful. i drive a 14 year old ford transit. (very young by my standard of vehicle) and it has been fantastic. very cheap to service, hasnt broken down, gets me to all the places i wqant to go and doesnt require me to work full time to throw money at it to keep iot on the road!

:) Pros:You can sleep in it wherever u like and whenever u like. You don't need a campsite or to pay camping fees, just pull up and it's all good. It will save you loads of money if u are travelling. Also they are very comfortable, if u get one that has not been decked out u can modify it to suit what u need/like.

this applies to all campers/converted commercial vehicles. i'd still recommend going for as new as you can afford so you spend less time breaking down and more time enjoying yourself.

a quite good option is an ex-commercial vehicle. they are cheaper to buy and would have been well maintained if they were owned by a large company, you can get them fairly new and then deck out the inside exactly as you want it.

the best thing about them though is that you can park up in places where you're not meant to be. all over the beaches in the uk are "no overnight camping" signs but you are allowed to park vehicles there. i used to camp right infront of the no camping signs and no-one had any idea i was there!

    peace and love
