just wanted to know if anyone knew anything about the risks of pregnant women drinking red bull. thanks.
caffeine is a subject of alot of debat. i'm lookin for something a little more, like whats up with the taurine. thanks for your input anyways. peace
Taurine is just an amino acid, not one of the essentials, but it's not harmful. Most of what's in Red Bull is harmless, it's just a bunch of B vitamins and amino acids. It's the caffeine, and the artificial colours/flavours and the amount of sugar that's the concern. Why is caffeine a subject of debate? Caffeine is large amounts is harmful to a developing fetus. It elevates maternal blood pressure and heart rate, is easily passed through the placenta, the developing fetus lacks the metabolism to eliminate it, it elevates the fetal heart rate, it increases the risk for preterm birth and low birth weight. The high levels of sugar in Red Bull increase the effects of the caffeine. Caffeine also is a diuretic, which stresses the kidneys and causes dehydration, a condition that is harmful to pregnancy. Moderate amounts of caffeine are probably safe, but high amounts, like in Red Bull, are not considered safe by the March of Dimes. Especially if she drinks colas and coffee, too.
i wasn't saying that caffeine is good at all. i was just woundering what other things the red bull had in it that are harmful.
Red Bull Ingredients: carbonated water, (not such a great thing) sucrose, (Table sugar) glucose, (Table sugar) sodium citrate, (buffering agent to balance ph levels) taurine, (amino acid) glucuronolactone,(mood enhancer, mild stimulant, also used in cleaning solvents) caffeine, (you know) inositol,(mood enhancer, made from glucose) niacin, (vitamin B3) D-pantothenol, (B vitamin) pyridoxine HCL, (B6) vitamin B12, artificial flavours, colors Hmmm, long term effects could be inhibited oxytocin (feel good hormone which also contracts the uterus and inhibits pain during labour) production, production of prolactin ( which makes mama's feel good while nursing) and seratonin. When the hypothalmus gland is artificially stimulated, it neglects to make these hormones itself, and voila! You have a chemical dependency!
