i purchased 10g of shrooms on monday. i were told that they were fresh on thursday... are they 2 old? or does age not matter>???? + how many shoud i eat??? thay are quite fat! hahha xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ChRiSsIe xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
there is no possible way for any of us to give you any type of answer until we know what species of mushroom you purchased. if they're fresh, you need to eat them soon. dosage also will depend on how hard you want to trip. some mushrooms can alter you at .5g, some require at least 2 or more grams for a noticible effect.
Eat all ten grams. If they're not dried it probably won't be too powerful of a trip, but that's just how I would tackle the situation.
if they're not dried, 10g of fresh Psilocybe cubensis won't do a whole hell of a lot - if anything. if it's Psilocybe azurescens, 10g fresh would be a pretty good dosage.......but possibly too much for someone unfamiliar with psychedelics, which this person sounds like they may well be. if they're partially dried though, they'd be more potent by gram than fresh mushrooms, and eating 10g would be more than they'd want if it's a stronger species.....
iv only done acid and salvia and coke and stuff like that, never shrooms. they are the psyilcybe cubensis sort,
if they are psilocybe cubensis, you should eat them when they are dry, if it is your first time 1-3 grams of dried mush will get you high (unless they are really bunk shrooms) fresh mushrooms are legal but you need to eat a hell of a lot more to get high, dry mushrooms are illegal but you only need a few grams to get high if you're doing it for your first time
you know, i couldn't disagree more. first of all, cubes are weak enough as it is, you don't need to go and make them weaker by drying them out (and any method readily available to a newby to dry mushrooms WILL decrease their potency) fresh mushrooms are far easier to digest, stronger, and a better (imo) experience all together. they also don't taste quite as bad. just make tea from them if you don't like eating them. but even if you eat them it won't make any difference, all that extra weight you mention is simply more water. thats it. its not any more mushrooms at all.
hmm, im kind of confused nesta...maybe you can clarify here you posted earlier that and and then i wrote well, i am basically saying the same thing you are...yet, in your last post you said this is sort of a contradiction isnt it? i was alway under the impression that if the fresh mushrooms are dried out a bit they will become more potent... ....meaning you'd need to eat about 10 grams of fresh mushrooms to get the same effects as 1 gram of dry mushrooms...or roughly something like this anyways, if you could clarify that would be great cheers kris
i think you simply misunderstood me. assume 20g of fresh plant matter (which is 90%water) contained 5mg of drug N. when said plant matter is dehydrated to roughly a tenth of that weight, it still contains roughly 5mg of drug N. 20g obviously is heavier than 2g, so the fresh material is less potent BY WEIGHT. but in the case of mushrooms, when its dried in any less-than-meticulous manner, it loses varying amounts of the active alkaloids, namely psilocin and psilocybin. because of this i will concede that fresh mushrooms are less potent BY WEIGHT, yet individually comparing the quantity of the active alkaloids from a mushroom fresh to the same mushroom dry, the fresh one will have more of the desired drugs. therefore, while the mushrooms you eat may weigh more, eating the same number of individual mushrooms will get you a markedly more significant experience. since the extra weight is all water, you do not have to eat "more shrooms" than when they're dried; simply view it as mushrooms with water. the higher alkaloid and water content make fresh mushrooms great for mushroom tea, too. i've heard that making tea decreases potency a little, but i've never had a problem with it unless i used poorly dried mushrooms (and almost all the mushrooms i've taken are ones i've grown, so i know everything thats happened to them). cut them up real fine with scissors or something, and you'll notice that compared to dried mushrooms you just break up and put in tea, you can actually get the peices smaller if they're fresh. this makes the alkaloids leave the fungal matter with greater ease, and considering that there are more in there to begin with, gentle heat isn't going to degrade the content by a significant amount. also, tea comes on a lot faster, of course, and it has the benefit of causing less GI distress than eating whole mushrooms.
btw, if they're not dried, 10g of cubes WONT do a hell of a lot just because they ARE roughly equivalent to 1g of dried cubes, which wont do shit. i'd recommend at LEAST an ounce of fresh mushrooms. more like 35-40g if you want a decent experience. of course, every shroom varies significantly in strength, often due to what kind of substrate its grown on (example: mushrooms grown on a BRF/verm mixture indoors are going to be a bit less potent than mushrooms grown on cow manure either indoors or naturally)
i think i may get this! (my brain is a little slow, hehe) so to sum it up, 1gram dry is the same as 10 gram fresh, just because the fresh ones contain more water... and fresh mushrooms are more potent than dry mushrooms, but fresh mushrooms contain more water (therefore adding to the weight) and thus the need for a higher dosage... so really, if i ate 30 grams of fresh mushrooms, and they were nicely potent, i'd most likely get a better trip with those fresh mushrooms then if i were to eat 3 grams dried of the same mushrooms... i believe i've got it now...i was a little slow on picking that up, hehe thanks for the clarification nesta, and if i summed it up wrong in this post lemme know..but i think i've got the basis of it now
thats basically it, buddy course, there's a method to dry mushrooms that keeps the potency very close to the same as when they're fresh, but most people don't do this, it's tedious, so you can assume -usually- that dry mushrooms will lose some of their potency before they get to you
hey timmy...in britian fresh mushrooms were legal up until yesterday whensome bastard in the house of lords decided it wasnt acceptable!!!....mushrooms WERE only illegal if you froze or dried them, or prepared them in any way with the intent of consumption. thats why you COULD buy them at music festivals and head shops and grow them in a window basket if you really wanted!! NOW ...however they are illegal period!
Best drying method I've ever come across is sealing the mushies in an airtight container with a big pile of epsom salt. No heat, no loss of alkaloids.
To clarify things, simply drying the shrooms from a fresh state to a dried one does decreases the psilocybin/psilocin amounts, but only by such a negligible amount that there is no possible way to notice any difference. Now, if you dried them for an extensive amount of time in high temperature conditions, then the amount decreased may become enough to lessen your trip, although still only slightly. Pretty much, don't worry about it.
