I thought that hippies were supposed to be open-minded...

You know, i came to this place because I thought that I finally found somewhere i could be myself and not get ridiculed for it.
Some of my posts dealing with my personal life have gotten nothing but reviews from people saying that I'm an idiot, self-centered, oblivious, etc......I lost count.
I don't have a problem hearing other people's opinions, but when it comes to down-right degrading the other person, I personally think that it's bull shit.

 

While I agree that the people on these forums aren't as open-minded as they'd like to see themselves, you are forgetting that the forums are also about freedom of speech. These people are free to tell you their true opinion. If you ask a question, many people will give you an honest answer instead of just what you want to hear.

 

i absolutely and whole heartedly agree! the trouble is that nowadays its supposedly "cool" to be politically aware and have a damn-the-man persona. they claim to be open minded and have a "i dont care what ppl think of me" attitude but then they penalize anyone who is actually being themselvesbecause they dont fit into their narrow minded, pigeon holed idea of what it means to be a so called "hippie". its disgusting.

 

But actually, I just looked at the threads you started and haven't seen a single person call you an Idiot, self-centered or oblivious. You say it's been said so many times you lost count. Please tell me where?

 

Some people just don't have respect for your opinions. C'est la vie. Nothing anyone can really do about it, but that's just how it is anywhere... Can't let them get you down.

 

teeny I tried to make this point a month or so ago. Im sorry to say that youre wasting your breath. There are a lot of very open minded people on here that are honest and true but there are also some people here that are only open minded as long as you agree with them. Some people just cannot see past their own ideas and opinions and are unwilling to look at anyone else's point of view. They are very quick to judge and even quicker to ridicule. I have borne the brunt of it a few times and have been made very angry at times but mostly I just let it slide off me like water off a duck and I try to stay out of conversations that will lead to nothing but arguements.

Dont let a few assholes ruin your time here. There ARE some really good people here.

 

look at my ones that are called, "ongoing fight w/ my boyfriend, opinions?" and my one about having a baby at 18. I erased the ones that were about my bf's and mine's fight cuz i got sick of what people were saying. I don't need to hear things like that. but the responces are still there.

 

I shouldn't have neglected to mention the people who have actually been supportive and understanding. They've helped me alot.
Most of the things that I've posted about have been really personal problems that I though I could find some direction in by posting them here due to the fact that I thought this was an open-minded place, but I'm begining to think that a shrink is the only way to go...

 

Ok, I read it. Seems like people thought that your boyfriend was abusive, and advised you to leave him. One person called you not an idiot, but a fool, but he didn't say it as an insult, but as a criticism of your choice to stay with a partner who, according to your post at least, was abusive while having his baby. That's a valid opinion. It can very well be wrong, and I'm not going to choose sides here, but it is a valid opinion that seems very logical from the information you have given us. As for you being self-centered, I've seen no such comment. If anything, people said you were too kind to stay with him.

Look. You post a thread saying "my boyfriend did this and that to me, but I'm having his baby so I have to stay with him". What replies did you expect? You asked people to pick sides, and they did.

Heh. Typical American thoughts. It's so much simpler with us Russians. All we do is sit at a friend's apartment and bitch about our problems while drinking a few bottles of vodka. Cheaper.

I agree with you teeny, there are some impolite people on here but you can't let it bother you. And of course there are some really nice guys and ladies too. Hopefully, I'm one of them and never too much of an idiot myself.

Ok, I read it. So you were called self-centered once (lost count?) by a person who clearly hasn't even fully read your thread, has less posts than you on these forums. Big deal. Is this your first day using the internet? No matter what forum it is, you will find some people like that.

ok, ok, maybe i got a little carried away. I'm just mad. maybe I just take things over-persoally, but a lot of the things that I've read are not fair. Just stressing my point that some of the people here need to learn where "free speach" ends and just being rude comes into play.

I know it's hard sometimes but you cant take things too personally here. Even if something you say is 100% correct and can be proven somebody is going to be a jerk about it. You could start a thread about the ocean being wet and somebody would insist it's dry. Just dont let certain people draw you into an argument for the sake of arguing.
