Just wait it out...if they're dreading at the tips, they'll make their way up to the root. If you try to backcomb them now or something, it'll just fuck it up (I did that once in the beginning...stupid idea).

When I first put my dreads in, I waited a few weeks before first washing. Then, when I did, I bought a nylon stocking and wore it in the shower, and washed my dreads through the stocking (for about 3 months or so). I guess I did this about once a week. Now, I wash my dreads every 1-2 (sometimes 3) weeks. As far as stuff to use...I'm probably not the best to answer that, 'cause I just used regular shampoo...like Head & Shoulders or Suave. It didn't hurt my dreads, but people usually use like...Dr. Bronner's shampoo which apparently doesn't leave a residue, etc. You can also get a bar soap for your dreads that has natural herbs and shit in it. It depends on how you wanna go, I guess.

As far as frizz goes...you're gonna have to wait it out. I mean, you CAN put wax in your hair, but that's highly unadvisable, since it just hinders the knotting process and makes your hair feel all disgusting...lol. If you want the frizz to go down, you can try palm rolling your dreads...which it basically just taking a dread in between the two palms of your hands and rolling it back and forth for a while. It helps make the dread look a little neater (at least for a while).

Hmm...well, that's my two cents. I'm sure others here can probably give better advice...lol. But if you have any more questions, feel free to ask...:)

Use aloe vera to tame the frizzies and strengthen your dreads. You can find it in the first aid/health section of almost any grocery store.

Whatever you do, please don't use wax. It's evil!

I say wash them more often than suggested above. the cleaner the yare the better they will lock. (if you want to know why this is take your time and read the threads :p)

    no wax.

use sea salt water or lemon juice and water to dry the hair to help it knott if its really bothering you.

aloe vera keeps the hair strong but dont use it too often.

Well looks as if you all have it under control. remember for your roots.. just don’t stress and sit back and watch the show... they will do what they need to do and they will dread up and grow

To get the frizzys down I use knotty boy dread tightening gel. It really helps with loose hairs and frizz. I used it about once every 3-4 weeks. You can get some at the knotty boy website www.knottyboy.com
Just to warn you though, it can make hair a little bit sticky if you put too much. Also, if you put too much it will leave little white flakes. but no worries if you put too much because it's a wash out product and as soon as your wash your dreads the flakes will go away.
