Bolton has been nominated by President Bush to be the next Ambassador to the United Nations. The activists held up banners, among those, one stated "John Bolton = Nuclear Proliferation" highlighting a frequent criticism of the Proliferation Security Initiative, an extra-UN "multi-lateral" agreement many see as run by the United States and being myopic an a means to more subtle and covert ends. At one point near the beginning of the disruption someone stood up and blocked the camera view of CSPAN briefly. From the CSPAN broadcast 3 separate individuals or sets of individuals with pink banners were discernable, standing up in different parts of the public gallery. They were all removed. One participant squeezed in a D.C. representation issue, vocally noting there was no Senator for D.C. to possibly participate in this hearing and represent their views. Phyllis Benis, of the Institute for Policy Studies, participated in a debate this morning on Bolton's nomination and reform of the U.N. on Democracy Now. She noted Bolton has previously stated that "there is no U.N." and that he did not believe in treaties as international law and has demonstrated disregard for the concept of international law. A representative of the Heritage Foundation defended Bolton's nomination and his past work. The Institute for Public Accuracy has additional progressive criticisms of John Bolton Follow the links
Will these same activists be protesting outside the Iranian and North Korean embassies any time soon, or does their interest in non-proliferation fade out when John Bolton is not around?
Ah yes PB, point the finger anywhere else than our own homestead first and foremost. God forbid you should ever display any criticism for the criminal complicity amongst all three branches of our corrupt government structure when you can merrily carry on their desired sheepish status quo like a good little flag waving sycophant. Try remembering that your regularly preferred targets are not the ones waging multiple front warfare and subsequent occupations in the name of liberty and democracy. Nor are even close to the level of tax payer funded global MIC proliferation of arms and armament technology that Washington has been overseeing for decades. But don't let any notion of true Constitutionally-based civic duty and scrutiny of our steadily increasing authoritarian corporate serving oligarchy trouble your hypocritical little mind. After all, Rove is counting on you to keep regurgitating those oft heard self-excusatory soundbites!
What a joke this Bolton appointment was. Anyone who had any last inkling of hope for Bush must now be completely disillusioned. The crowd booed Bush at the Pope's funeral when his face showed up on the big screen set up outside the main area. Reminds me of how the crowd booed Bush when his face was put on the big screen at the Olympics. People love the guy. .
Yeah, I watched coverage of the funeral, and I never heard mention of Bush being booed... what happened to the liberal media?
Ironic that Americans have to get their news from entertainers and get their entertainment from the news shows. .
