NAMASTE Ben and Jerrys is one and other companys have went that way. There is more and more companys that are going that way. Most of the company brands you find in say a health food store are that way now.As far as big chain stores go there is only a few companys that even think that way.But with more people writing to companys to make a change we will see this happen alot more.I have changed my diet so i could lesson the on supporting companys that do not do this.It would be nice if we could list all the companys that are more ecco friendly.Great post.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is AWESOME. So is Chocolate Brownie Batter. Save the Earth! Eat Ice Cream! I love Ben and Jerry's even more now!
The founders of Ben and Jerry's were highly dedicated to their ideas of social responsibility. However, their company is in the hands of a big multinational now. Whether the vision of Ben and Jerry's will be maintained is uncertain. http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/investing/20000426f.asp?prodtype=grn
If you're referring to them helping the environment as a marketing strategy, they've been doing it since the beginning of their business-it's not new. Unfortunately, they sold their ice cream business. They are now owned by Lever Brothers, if I'm not mistaken. Ben Cohen (Ben of Ben & Jerry's) now runs an internet political action group called True Majority. It's a great organization, unless you're a Republican. I think one of the conditions of the sale of their business and the retention of the original name is that the company maintain many of the ideals upon which it was founded i.e. continuing to help the environment.
If you drink beer, drink Fat Tire. They get all their energy from the wind, and completely eco-friendly and renewable resource. ~Madeline
