i have 7 snakes, 15 lizards, 2 turtles, 7 fish tanks, 3 dogs, and 2 cats. i've loved animals since i was a kid but my dad would never let me have anything except an outside dog. i told him when i moved out i would have a zoo, and i didn't lie about that. but anyways, the whole point is, i've aquired, cared for, and learned about snakes for 3 years now. i used to work in a pet store until it suddenly hit me that the pet trade is very cruel, now i am obsessed with visiting pet stores and buying the animals that are in too small of cages or look unhealthy. but you can only adopt so many animals and give them all the attention they need so i am about maxed out. i have been bit by ball pythons, carpet pythons, and various lizards and turtles, but never in my life have i experienced a 10 foot snake biting someone.

the other night my boyfriend was feeding the burm, and i always tell him not to stick his whole hand in the cage but the other night he did, and before i could even say anything the snake struck him within 5 seconds of holding the rat in the cage. luckily he didn't lock his jaw, when he yanked his hand back the snake let go, but his arm is pretty messed up. an artery popped up out of his arm and stuck straight up spitting blood into the air, it was the scariest thing i've ever seen and i thought i would post some pictures.. this is not a very bad bite, there have been much worse snake bites in history, but i would like this to serve as a warning to snake owners. if you get bit in the wrong place or by the wrong snake, you can get a horrible infection which can sometimes lead to amputating body parts...so all snake owners, use caution all the time when feeding. never hold the mouse/rat by it's tail for a snake over 3 feet long. and just a little hint, to keep your snakes friendly, always feed them outside of their cage if possible. that way when you open their cage just to take them out they don't always associate opening the cage with feeding time.

these are day after pics, but i think they get the point across..
