Under what condition would you consider counseling. Lately I have been very depressed. For the past 2 weeks I've been very happy and then yesturday morning leading up to right now I've been depressed.

I went to my first family counseling appt. last week and now I think I really want to see a counseler for one on one. i had alot of stuff to say and it just felt good to get it out. I could just talk and the lady understood what I was saying. If I go to one on one couseling I can talk about stuff I feel uncomftable talking about with my mom.

if you think seeing a counselor would do you good, then you should go ahead and do it. try it out, see if it works for you; if you like it, continue on and if not then stop going. there's no harm in trying (unless this is a very expensive counselor)!

if you're talking about free counselors, be wary. certain church counselors, for example, might give you compromised advice by trying to promote their religious agenda. likewise, a school counselor does not have confidentiality laws like shrinks do, and can call the cops if you talk about drug abuse, for example (rather than actually trying to help you). so i'd do some research. you said you have family counseling, so it sounds like you know of a trusted therapist. but if you want to try someone else, just do a little research and find one whose approach is right for you.

anyway, good luck. i hope you find something to help, and that things improve for you.

Counselling in my postion absolutely saved me. I went to a medically funded one though, if you have to pay make sure you can pay the bills. Always do a background check on them and never talk when uncomfitable....the key ingrediant is relaxation (yeah mom too).

I decided to go to see my uni's counsellor cos I was feeling very depressed during the beginning of my first semester at university and i have to say, that after all the sessions I had with her (about 7) i felt so mch better, because I had so much inside that i needed to make sense of, and she helped me attribute meaning to my feelings and insecurities. It really helped. I reccommend going to see a counsellor as it might help you understand stuff, if you find yourself a bit too lost inside your head.
